Solved

Unfinished preview is release date?

We showed an unfinalized, unfinished version of a feature film at an "in-progress" viewing at a festival in 2013... Hardly a release date...

Then we accidentally got caught up in development hell until 2023.

We are ready to release the real and fully edited version that is like 70% new footage.  It's completely re-edited with stuff we shot over the last 10 years... new music, new actors, nearly new everything, etc.

We have been unable to change the date of 2013 to 2023.

We had a distributor excited to buy it but now isn't so sure because it's supposedly "10" years old.

How do I change this?

Myself and our production team of over 100 could be missing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars if this isn't fixed.

Thank you for your time,

Sam Kozel

It looks like if the date has the attribute "work-in-progress", the title year can reflect the later release year. Example:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0326716/releaseinfo/

Which title are you talking about?

Thank you for this insight.

This is the title: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt3212056/

The Milwaukee Film Festival is the work in progress screening.

I dont know why there is a 2018 section.

Supposedly my producing partners over the last few years have submitted multiple times to have these dates changed but nothing has happened.

Thanks again for your help.

@sam_kozel

Well, you can try to edit the data, but you may have to provide evidence.

I'm not sure what IMDb would require to add "(work-in-progress)" to the festival date: Is it enough that changes have been made since then, or must the screenings have been advertised as work-in-progress screenings at the time? Perhaps IMDb staff can say more.

I dont know why there is a 2018 section.

There are news from 2018 saying that it will finally get a wide release that year, the reason for that release date entry is probably that.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/reliable-source/wp/2018/04/02/louise-linton-is-starring-in-a-rom-com-heres-what-we-know-about-serial-daters-anonymous/

"He expects a “wide release” this year, though the timing depends on a yet-to-be-struck distribution deal"

https://www.elle.com/culture/movies-tv/a19683172/louise-linton-serial-daters-anonymous/

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5573111/Treasury-Lady-Louise-Lintons-Sex-City-style-rom-com-finally-released.html

But it doesn't look like that happened, so you should be able to delete that entry since there is no specific date and it looks wrong.

@mbmb Thanks MBMB!  Yes that must be why, but yeah.  It never released.
