Unfair rating system targeting indie creators: Negative reviews are OUTWEIGHING the positive reviews even though positive are the MAJORITY!
Hello, there has been a major issue with the rating system as it relates to a few filmmakers profiles on IMDb. All of the work under Tommy Jackson (x) has dropped in ratings significantly in the last few weeks (and today alone) and it’s not adding up. A targeted attack? Here’s an image from his film “Whispers of the Witching hour” which sat above a 7 a few weeks back and was as even higher a few months ago. What’s very strange is there aren’t even that many 1s or 2s, or 3s on the film… There’s actually significantly more positive and mediocre star reviews - even the written reviews are ALL above a 7 (there are 34 written reviews at the moment).
I’ve already contacted IMDb and they’ve given me the same response “our system detects bots and fake reviews and our system rates based on a complex algorithm that’s fair”. FAIR? What? This is not fair its bogus.
I took upon myself to search other films and every one I found, the unweighted mean was always within .5 or so from it weighted mean. Not 3 full points…. It’s also happened to his other work today.
For instance look up the new snow white live action remake by Disney - it’s around a 2 on both weighted and unweighted…. why is this different.
IMDb, can you actually look into this and not just give me that same response? Sometimes technology fails… and this doesnt make sense. The picture is right there as evidence.

Hi indiefilmguy-
We have reviewed this title and can confirm the weighted rating is displaying as intended. We have several safeguards in place to automatically detect and defeat vote manipulation. When unusual voting activity is detected, a different weighting calculation may be applied in order to preserve the reliability of our system. To ensure our rating mechanism remains effective, we don't disclose the exact method used to generate the rating.
For more information on our abuse detection methods, or details about IMDb ratings and weighted averages, please refer to our Ratings FAQ.
Cheers!
