Unable to Verify when posting links & correcting grammar

I keep having this issue and I'm not sure what to do.

For years I corrected grammar on IMDb and had no issues whatsoever in having changes approved. Then suddenly everything seemed to be flagged and kicked back, right after they added the "Interesting" option where you can vote trivia and goofs up or down. Now I'm inexplicably about 50/50 with corrections. Some things will be approved and the most random things will be declined as "unable to verify", and it's often things that have no legitimate reason to be declined.

  • There are several in my edit history where all I did was add links to information that was already there, and the receipt says it was declined because it was "unable to verify". I'm puzzled and frustrated as to why I keep getting this. I followed the [link=...] formatting correctly so I'm really unsure as to why it was declined.
  • Ditto for some grammatical corrections too. Why would grammar have to be verified?
  • As a separate issue, sometimes an edit is approved, then pulled down for some reason. For instance, on one episode I inserted a bit of trivia as to to the basis of the episode (Law & Order is "ripped from the headlines" after all) and it was approved and viewable, then someone pulled it and it says in my history "unable to verify". This was obviously not corrected by a human, as it is easily Googled and verified within seconds. This was probably well over a year ago, and yet despite being re-submitted it's still not there https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0966156/trivia/?ref_=tt_ql_trv
  • There are also several places where someone listed a goof as trivia, so I tried to delete them from trivia and re-submit them into the goof section where they belong, but they were also declined as "unable to verify" so the goof remains in the wrong place. Those 3 hateful little words are frustrating me so much!

Attempted Remedies:

  • I have re-written some bits of trivia and some grammatical edits multiple times, and they're still declined, over and over again, for no reason I can discern
  • I have followed the instructions to re-submit, but I do not get the "check these updates" option nor do I get any opportunity to insert a reason. Just last night I tried to re-submit something and there was no way to check a box or pull down an option to "explain the edit" as it instructs. The directions for remedying the situation are very poor and leave us with few to no options. It's extremely frustrating.

My biggest problem at the moment is that even inserting links, using IMDb's formatting requirements, are being declined and I have no idea why. One example is here: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6746132/trivia/?ref_=tt_ql_trv. I put in the links to the specific episodes but my edit history says:

Your Comment

Reason Unable to verify.

Your contribution has been declined. We have been unable to verify your contribution.

How do I fix this? Are my edits flagged or something? Why would something as innocuous as adding URLs be declined? REPEATEDLY

Hi ecidnac -

I reviewed all these updates, and with the exception of a few (some have since been removed or were accepted, one was rejected as we were unable to verify the trivia item), I can confirm that these were incorrectly declined due to processing error.

I have now actioned all the above requested updates (adding/removing the applicable trivia and Goofs).

If you are still seeing that your current updates are being declined incorrectly, please report them here and our staff can investigate those accordingly.

Cheers!

@Michelle Thank you for your time in checking the items I listed; I appreciate your help with those trivia items. Here's hoping that glitch has been cleared up! I re-formatted the Soundtrack ones that were kicked back and they were approved.

I have a question, if I may. I submitted a recent update (#210728-170054-632000) and it was declined "Reason Does not meet contribution guidelines". I was wondering if it was because of the profanity?

The swear word (a**hole) was already in the trivia and is still there (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1028636/trivia/?ref_=tt_ql_trv). It was not originally added by me. The translation of Czech is off; that's what I was trying to fix, leaving the rest of the statement intact. The captions are displayed on screen as "Welcome to Miami, a**hole" with a**hole uncensored. Should I censor it and re-submit even though it was already approved with the cuss all spelled out?

Thanks again for your time and offer of assistance!

Hi ecidnac -

In order for our staff to investigate further, please post some recent 18-digit submission reference numbers associated with your declined updates (you can find your submissions in your Contribution History).

Once we have additional submission details we can take a look for you.

Cheers!
