Solved

"Unable to verify" seems a catch-all reason to reject date ...

... but I'm at a loss to figure out how to "verify" the info in this rejection:

JONAH HEX (2010)     Declined      240122-231854-657000

Actor Edit

Before
Shannon, Michael (V)   Doc Cross Williams   8
After
Shannon, Michael (V)  Doc Cross Williams (scenes deleted)   8
Your Comment
Despite the fairly significant onscreen credit, the only appearance of this character is in a deleted scene where Lilah is on a stagecoach to New Orleans and is harassed by the obnoxious Doc Williams.
Reason Unable to verify.

Your contribution has been declined. We have been unable to verify your contribution.

The question is: how does one verify an absence? I've seen this movie two or three times, and have never been aware of Michael Shannon (a very recognizable actor) in it at all. I only realised his contribution when viewing the Deleted Scenes on a DVD of JONAH HEX. He actually holds 8th position in the film credits, despite being (as far as far as my awareness goes) not in the movie at all.

So, I am personally satisfied that he only appears in this deleted scene; but how is it possible to "verify" this for someone else, except by taking them by the hand and sitting them down to watch the whole movie with me? ("See, there he isn't.") If you have a strategy for achieving this aim, I would be glad to consider it.

P.S. If you have Michael Shannon's phone number, I could give him a call.

Hutch: Can you find any reviews or articles that mention that Shannon didn't appear in the film? I note that critics such as Roger Ebert and Leonard Maltin listed Shannon as being in the film's cast without saying anything about him not appearing in the movie.

@gromit82   Thanks for the suggestion, gromit. (Cracking cheese, BTW.) I'll try an internet search for clues.

@hutch48   At least two reviews online called it a "blink-and-you'll-miss-it" role.

Maybe I blinked. I should sit thru the film one more time.

@hutch48   OK, on another viewing, I found Michael Shannon. He is on-screen (at about 28:00) for literally less than 15 seconds, and has one line of dialogue.

So I recant my previous position; apologies.

Pity, really; his performance in the deleted scene is a terrific self-contained character study. But a distraction from the main story-line. Oh well ...

@hutch48   P.S. This is the first movie I saw Michael Fassbender in, and his Irish psychopath character blew me away.
