TV series Looney Tunes 1930-ongoing - Part 2

Because this thread (https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/tv-series-looney-tunes-1930-ongoing) is closed, I'm starting a new thread. Again, some misguided contributor has added Looney Tunes as a TV series that started in 1930: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8335332/reference. They've also added an episode: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8785828/reference, which should also be deleted because it is this short film: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0021380/reference.

Can a staffer delete this nonsense and contact the person responsible for this?

Hi Marco,

I've removed the Looney Tunes TV series and contacted the user responsible.

gromit82 those other incorrectly labelled TV series you mention, do you know if we already have these individual titles live as standalone shorts?

Will:

What if IMDb had a page for each movie series? Unlike the pages for TV series, this movie-series page would simply link to the pages for each movie in the series.

For example, the "Star Wars" page would link to all the movies in the "Star Wars" series. The Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies page would link to all the shorts in the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies series. And so on.

And since the pages are simply list of links, there would be no problem in having separate pages for series within series. For example, in addition to the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies page, there could also be a Bugs Bunny page.

We already have Movie Connections, but this would be a cleaner and more useful way to list each movie series. As it is, when I want to a see a list of every movie in a series, I always go to Wikipedia, not IMDb. Let's give IMDb the useful tool that Wikipedia already has.

Hi all,

We wouldn't want to change the primary title of any of these shorts as that was the title those shots were originally released under, however you could add a (syndication title) alternate title to each of the shorts. That way they would appear in any Looney Tunes searches.  You could also add movie connections where applicable linking the titles to aid discovery.

We do not have the functionality to list "Movie series" at this point in time. Have you checked the ideas section to see if we already have this listed as a suggestion? If so you can +1 it or if not you can create a new idea for this feature.

Regards,
Will

Will: I didn't have a chance to check all the fake series that had been added to the database before the list was removed from this thread. However, one of those fake series was "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" (1927) at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt6964138/.

I am not sure what good it would have done for anyone to broadcast a TV series in the United States in 1927, before the first experimental television station in the United States went on the air in 1928. Nobody would have been watching.

Of course, the real explanation is that the year of this series is incorrect, if indeed such a series was ever made. The list of episodes implies that some of the episodes were first aired in 2016. I don't know if such episodes actually exist, but if they were, they aren't part of a TV series that debuted in 1927. (The Walt Disney Company re-acquired the rights to Oswald in 2006 and started merchandising the character again, but I don't know if any new cartoon series of Oswald has been produced.)

Hi again gromit82,

We have investigated and now updated "Oswald and the Rabbit" so that these are listed as a title type: Movie (as they appear to have originally released theatrically); please allow 24 hours for these to update on the site.

If you encounter any further instances of incorrectly assigned title types, please open a new conversation on GetSatisfaction and we will do our best to assist you there!

Best wishes,
Josie
