TV Episodes which feature two different stories with separate cast lists

The true-crime series In Suspicious Circumstances https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133021/reference/ consisted of episodes which each featured two separate stories; these had separate cast lists, one page of cast per story, headed by the relevant story name. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1372349/reference/ is an example.

I presume these should be listed in IMDB as a single cast list, with all the cast in order for the first story, followed by all the cast in order for the second story, with the story name in parenthesis in the attribute field for each cast member "(segment 'Laugh Baby Laugh')" or "(segment 'Shadow of Doubt')".

However I notice that someone has listed separate episodes eg 3.1 is the combined story titles and 3.2 is the second story only. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133021/episodes/?season=3

Should this be rationalised by deleting all the "episodes" which list only the second story and cast list, and then renumbering the remaining episodes?

I've added cast-order numbers for 3.1 and 3.2, before I realised how IMDB was recording things. I'll correct things once I have a decision from the list managers as to how they want things to be listed.

Hi @martin_695862 -

I'm following up here to confirm that generally, when two episodes are aired as one, there will likely be one long end credit detailing both episodes. In most cases where there is an episode-credits-episode-credits, it is often an indication that it originally released as two episodes (although this is not always the case).

Regardless, if we have determined that the two episodes released as one, we follow the end credits in the order they appeared on screen, even if there is a scene or other episode breaking.   So if both stories are listed as a single episode, we would treat the cast order as one long cast list.

I hope this helps!

This was two consecutive cast lists, each headed by its episode title, with nothing in between. Sounds as if it should be treated as a single episode.

So, should the even-numbered episodes be removed in seasons such as https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133021/episodes/?season=4 where 1,3,5 have both cast lists listed consecutively, with "segment: episode title" attributes? It looks as if someone has submitted them as two episodes, the odd-numbered episodes with a title that lists both segment titles and the even-numbered episodes with just the episode title for the second segment.

If so, is that something I can do, or will it need instructions for an IMDB list manager to do?

@martin_695862 Hi!

In this case you would have to submit merges for the episodes that should be in 1 and then fix the numbering and titles after the merges are approved. Follow our help guides for title merges and corrections.

Cheers!
