I'm totally confused why this trivia contribution was declined. It is all based in fact. You can look it up on Wikipedia. This fits the total bill for every guideline for trivia Via contribution on IMDbPlease explain why it was denied.

TRIVIA ADDITION
As Homer approaches the stage to accept his first place award for the science project, behind everybody on stage there is a big banner that says Geo Physical Year. It is actually known as International Geophysical Year (IGY) and was an international scientific project that lasted from 1 July 1957 to 31 December 1958. It marked the end of a long period during the Cold War when scientific interchange between East and West had been seriously interrupted.

@Cousinvin62 It might have been declined because it should have been submitted as a Goof (Type: Revealing Mistake), i.e., the banner was incorrect.
