Thank you to everyone who submitted information to IMDb during April, regardless of whether you made the leaderboard.

We hit a total of 1,951,318 items from our leaderboard alone! That is an average of 65,044 items a day, 2,710 items an hour and 45 per minute.

Special recognition due to our top 10 users: inespape-1, ron-whisky, bradleykent1, formulakaz, ctfabian, cinelamour, michaelfool, Woodyanders, Mark_a_Wood and dscbulkmail-amazon who submitted 35% of all items from the leaderboard. ron-whisky submitted 59,995 more items in April than in March, kudos!

We had 199 returning users from the final leaderboard of March and 101 new entries, the highest of which was imdb-62942, who rose up to position 20. Special shout-outs to watcheram, who jumped a whopping 241 places over their performance last month, and to kuldeepchauhan_331, britstuff, danstarr69, bbmtl-21883, jerrygauthier, xylit333, nmilijasevic-98485, benourdog, vtorov-boss, glf-5, and SchaiDog who all improved their rankings by over 100 places.

Thanks everyone!

It was easy to jump up the list.

No funerals to attend.

Not much tiredness.

Less time archiving local film/TV/music news stories from the last 23 years, mainly because the company who own 4 of my cities newspapers, and another 186 local newspapers across the country, have limited the number of stories you can read a month for free. However that restriction doesn't exist on Archive Today, and occasionally the Wayback Machine when it's not working properly, as I can read as many stories as I want there with the loophole I've found.

I've done a lot of archiving still however because I've noticed a lot of websites and stories from other newspapers disappearing in recent years, so I archive every link that I add to IMDB just in case they disappear in future.

@Will

inespape-1
IMDb member since November 2001
https://www.imdb.com/user/ur1421253/

Lifetime Title : 1,000,000+
- - -

inespape-1 has actually watched 1,000,000 titles and added that data for IMDb ? ?

I may be off on the math here...
30 min TV... 60 min TV... 120 min Movie
365 days at 24 hours : 8,760 hours in a year
1,000,000 / 8,760 = 114 years ? ? (with no sleep😜)

and how much time does it take to add a Title here
with cast & crew and all that other data ? ?

@ACT_1 Hours, or even days.

Time could be shortened massively by not bothering to search for the correct people, and just pressing "I am not sure, let the staff decide" instead, but I like to make sure I have the correct people myself so that more duplicate profiles aren't created.

I also correct names and merge duplicate profiles which I find along the way a lot, along with adding any known nicknames, birth names, birth places, birth dates, every major official site/social media profile for them that I can find (ie Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube, Vimeo, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Soundcloud, BandCamp etc), and roughly 10 or fewer news stories which mention them, to make sure that they can be found much easier in future. Sometimes I'll add a biography too.

And I do the same the titles themselves which I correct or add, by making sure they have companies, official site links, video links, colour, countries, languages, release dates, running times, and genres added at least, along with the obvious cast and crew.

Some titles I can't understand how they got accepted on IMDB in the first place, when they haven't included at least one of either a production company, distribution company, an official site, or a director/producer/writer.

Just one of them at least, will give you a much better idea of where to start your search for the incomplete production in question.

I don't know why the Top 10 especially keep getting congratulated, when it's clear they're either bots, or groups of people using the same login details for reasons known only to them.

Between 2002 and 2010 I saw at least 5000 films which I bought, and must have seen at least 3000 more films in my 35 year lifetime.

Yet since 2010 and even more since 2014 when I got my own computer, I've been spending practically all of my time online trying to correct things and people on websites like Wikipedia, Quora, Youtube etc and for the last 18 months IMDB.

My corrections on those websites are mainly on subjects like:

  • My city Bradford aka the world's first UNESCO City of Film ie local filming locations, local celebrities, local tourist attractions, etc which even the local council, newspapers, tourism companies, film offices etc are clueless about.
  • Comedies and dramas by ITV the most popular network on British TV for most of it's 65+ year history, not than anyone remembers.
  • UK geography specifically relating to the 69 UK city populations and area sizes which most of the world are clueless about.

I've barely seen any films or TV shows, in the last 5 years especially, apart from a few of my usual shows which don't need much attention, as I'm on here practically non-stop editing things, sacrificing my own time to make things better and easier to find.

I mainly just want to focus on productions and people from my city, and Yorkshire in general, but it's impossible to ignore all the incomplete productions and profiles which have nothing to do with my city or Yorkshire.

Sometimes I update them because there's someone or something which is connected to someone or something to do with my city, but most of the time they have nothing to do with my city whatsoever. I just happened to stumble across them along the way, while updating something else which does have something to do with something or someone from my city.

In the last week I've spent most of my time completing the huge cast and crew for 2 very long music videos, from a London based collective that I've never heard of, simply because I stumbled across them when searching for their name (which still isn't on IMDB yet, as it's been pending for days) to add to a soundtrack.

While adding the cast and crew to those music videos, I found that most of them had duplicate profiles.

I also noticed that a make-up artist from one of those music videos had worked on a lot of productions which were based in my city. So while updating her profile, I found out that she trained in my city, and worked on a few more local productions that filmed in my city which I, and the clueless film office didn't even know existed until now, so I'll be adding those to IMDB too.

One of those productions is another long-form music video, for another London based band, but this one is also available in 4-parts as shorter normal length music videos, so I might have to add both the long and the short versions.

@ACT_1 "inespape-1 has actually watched 1,000,000 titles and added that data for IMDb ??" Nobody said that. You don't have to have watched a title to add the cast and crew if you have the credits that are listed at the end of the title.

@Marco

So, inespape-1 just rented or purchased 1,000,000 titles on discs
to get all the credits to add to IMDb
and did not have to take the time to watch the entire title

@ACT_1 Obviously I can't speak for Inespape-1. I can just say that these days, it's very easy to get your hands on the ends credits of (at least) a couple of thousand titles, not via discs (which would be rather costly) but via online streaming services. Apart from that, if you know your way around IMDb, it's very easy to find spots that are in dire need of a (relatively easy) fix. One example that comes to mind: There are quite some people in the database that have a year in the attribute of their crew credit, which isn't allowed. These can be easily deleted without having seen anything.

@Marco Inescape-1 isn't just correcting titles. Act's point is that he has added over 1,000,000 titles to IMDb in 20 years. That's not correcting, those are all new to IMDb titles. That seems inconceivable even if he watches nothing but the credits. That's 50,000 new titles per year or 136 new titles a day for two decades!

On the contrary, the description of the Lifetime Title badge says, "lifetime count of all new title submissions and corrections."

I would guess that it also includes episodes.

That's still a lot of new titles and title corrections! (Title corrections aren't that common, really.) I've been a top contributor for over 4 years and I have 250+ on the Lifetime Title (or barely what Inescape would do in 2 days)

So, how much money did IMDb pay inespape-1 for being a Top Contributor ? ?

inespape-1 has time for a real job and family and ever just go bowling ? ?

Well, as I posited before, the member account of the number one Top Contributor may have more than one individual human being operating it, like how historically the most famous of mathematicians had teams of "computers", scriveners, couriers or other assistants. There are also ways to modify the submission interface so as to streamline the process of filling out the form fields, or accessing specific submission forms, even creating custom submission forms. As to the question of access to materials to be contributed, there are bound to be private librarians out there in the world, who may have archives a thousand times larger than the average media-collecting person, almost like owning one's own university-grade library.

Hi adrian,

Yes the new cadence is monthly following contributor feedback on the previous trial.

Thanks,

Will
