Titte Change for Rerelease

260711-205342-420000

Hi everyone,

I'm hoping someone can help me understand how title changes are supposed to work on IMDb.

In my case, I'm the producer on a film originally titled "Knights of Swing," and we're trying to change the primary title to "You've Gotta Have a Dream." However, every time I submit the correction, IMDb leaves "Knights of Swing" as the main title and instead adds "You've Gotta Have a Dream" as the original title, which is the opposite of what I'm trying to do.

On top of that, I can't submit another correction because IMDb says I've already submitted this change, even though the page still hasn't been updated correctly. I've submitted many times over the last three months.

Has anyone run into this before? Is there a specific way to submit a title change so the new title becomes the primary title, or does this require help from IMDb staff? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi DonaldHN-

Thank you for posting the reference! Further reviewing, the corrections have been approved. The titles are now reverted respectively and the changes are live on the site.

Cheers!

Hey Maya! We are also struggling to change the release date to 14 March 2026. It currently still reads as 7 April 2023. Do you think you could help us with that?

@DonaldHN

You said it's a re-release, so you can add a new date with a relevant attribute if you select Other in the form:

It's actually not a rerelease because the movie never came out and I've tried using those features, but every time my request gets denied. I've tried for the last couple months.

Was this a winner at the Rome International Movie Awards Best Feature Film, May 2022.

That was a different movie, this movie is not explicitly the same movie. It’s been cut down and footage has been added etc so it should be considered in post production pending distribution and not be listed as a rerelease because this movie has not been released.

Hi @DonaldHN,

IMDb stores factual data in the order of their historical appearance. Facts should not be changed.

In your case. The movie was first released as "Knights of Swing" in 2023, so the (original) main title is Knights of Swing (2023), and no change should be applied to this factual data. In the submission form the "Title Correction" should not be used, instead the "Alternate Titles" can be added to reflect the current state:

Then the date of first released should stay untouched, instead the date of re-release can be added with the attribute:

All the above is correct for re-released titles which did not undergone significant edits comparing to the original one.

I hope this helps.

"rerun" relates to TV.

"imdb display title" can be used when it is the most common title now. That is how it is already listed.

Case #260715-221540-720000

Hi everyone,

My name is Donald Nguyen, and I am the main producer on the film You've Gotta Have a Dream.

I'm hoping someone can help point me in the right direction regarding the release year for our film.

After months of working with IMDb, we were finally able to get the primary title changed from Knights of Swing to You've Gotta Have a Dream, which we're very grateful for. However, we're still trying to update the release year from 2023 to 2026.

The reason we're requesting this change is that the 2023 version of the film was never publicly released or distributed. Since then, the project has undergone substantial changes, including new footage, extensive re-editing, and a new title. The version that will actually be released to the public is You've Gotta Have a Dream, with a planned release date of March 14, 2026.

We've submitted multiple release date corrections over the past few months, but each request has been declined. Some responses have suggested treating this as a re-release, but our understanding is that a re-release assumes there was a previous public release, which was not the case here.

Has anyone encountered a similar situation, or could an IMDb staff member review whether the release year should reflect the film's first public release in 2026? If there's a different submission process or documentation we should provide, we'd really appreciate any guidance.

Thank you in advance for your time and any assistance.

The IMDb leads to seemingly strong evidence that Knights of Swing was released, such as a Broadway World article and a tweet which says, "#KnightsofSwing is NOW AVAILABLE on @tubi @appletv and @vimeo on demand." These are even earlier than the 2023 date currently listed.
