Title confusion because of year

I just finished adding a new title "Wreck (2020)" which then told me that it would be given the roman numeral (I) afterwards so that it wasn't confused with the other 2020 film of the same name. Unfortunately, after submitting it turns out it just added all of my credit information to that other film! Any suggestions on how to get that fixed? And more importantly prevent it from causing the same problem again if I were to resubmit, as it happened automatically without me changing anything. Thanks!

I see what you mean.

I'd suggest you post the 18-digit contribution number here, and see if a staffer can sort it out.

If you don't have it handy, you can find it here:

https://contribute.imdb.com/contributions/history

As for avoiding this in future...

Somewhere along the line, I believe you answered a question incorrectly.

Since there was already a title of the same name and year, your _new_ title should have received Roman numeral (II), not (I).

On the Add New Title form

https://contribute.imdb.com/updates?update=title

it asks for various info, then gives you a list of possible existing titles, _with links_.

So if I try to add a new Wreck now, it comes up with

We already have the following title which exactly matches'Wreck (2020)':-

  1. Wreck (2020)

(which is where your credits have gone).

It also gives the option

This is not an existing title, continue with 'Wreck (2020/II)'.

which is what you should have checked.

I don't I've ever added a same_title, same_year entry, so I can't speak to where else in the process you may have gone wrong, or whether there's a genuine bug there.  Maybe I'll try to get further in the process to see.

But right now, you should just post the contribution number and wait for a staffer to advise your next step. They may be able to undo the problem, and even get your new title added. Or they'll state what you should do next.

Thanks Bderoes!

Here is the 18 digit number:

210130-011158-751000

I did click the "This is not an existing title..." button, however, I also saved my submission then came back to it later so it's possible that it got reset in that process?

Is there a way to hail a staffer, or just luck of the draw as to if someone pops their head in the thread?

Hi jeanpaulderoover -

I reviewed the initial submission and can see that instead of requesting a new title submission, the update was requested to add the data to the existing title page for "Wreck (2020)".

Please submit a new title page for your title, you can find details on how to do so on the following guide: https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/adding-a-new-title/GNXTSSVTJTFCRZGN?ref_=helpsrall#, once the new title has been approved, please let us know here and a staff member can then move the data listed on the wrong title page to the correct new title page.

Cheers!

Thanks Michelle,

I've gone ahead and done that - here's the contribution number for the new title:

210201-193613-865000

Thank you in advance!

Michelle, I think a bug may have facilitated this error. Jean Paul said he tried to submit a new title, but also saved and re-loaded it along the way. When I try the same thing, I get the following message. The claim that I have already submitted the title is obviously wrong. (saved update 210201-185451-540200)

Thanks Peter_pbn,

I agree, it didn't feel like I had consciously made an error, so maybe this was part of the reason why it happened? Thanks for looking into it.
