You know this was a fantastic episode. It was well written and well produced. It explored the past of characters in an amazing way and did a great job fleshing out the horrors lf the klingon war. On top of this, the characters had believable reactions and spoke in a normal angry human, non-activist fashion. The plot twists are VERY well constructed and momemts of shock leave you speachless for minutes. This is the best dark parts of Star Trek Discovery combined with the idealism and hope of a better future that the federation is built on.
Dispite creating such a wprk of art however, the writers could not help themselves from inserting racist language. The very end of the episode has an otherwise fantastic conversation between Pike and the doctor end in the words:
"You haven't lived my life. You have the priviliege of believing in what is best in people".
In other words, the black man tells the aging white man that he has lived an easy life of priviliege. The word priviliege is clearly deliberately choosen so the white man can be told to "check his priviliege".
The episode itself is a 10/10, but labeling a beloved character as a toxic white cis male is absolutely unacceptable. I would rate this episode a 1/10 for the disrespect they are showing the character that is the entire reason behind this show existing, but IMDB does not count those anymore. 4/10 it is ...
