The Sam Waterston problem

Hullo,

Yesterday I noticed that Sam Waterston is not credited on IMDb for his part in the film "Nixon". I tried adding his name to the cast list but it got rejected (#231203-014407-236000).

Now, it is true that Sam Waterston's brief role as Richard Helms was deleted from the theatrical cut of the film. However, he appears very memorably in the director's cut which I believe means he should be credited on IMDb for his role.

Best wishes,

Mateja

Hi @AlanClarke -

We do not list these credits unless the person has received an on-screen credit for their work in the original version of the title. Please visit our help guides for more.

Cheers!

@Bethanny Hm. Interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for the answer even though I must confess I find the policy bizarre. How can the film's IMDb page be complete without including one of the most prominent players in the director's cut which is currently the default version on all home video releases and streaming.

May I also point out there are other IMDb pages which credit actors who were not in the original versions of the movies such as Ian McDiarmid being credited on The Empire Strikes Back.

Also Lord of the Rings, such as Christopher Lee in The Return of the King

I don't think it is really true that IMDb doesn't want to list such credits, but it hasn't been resolved in guidelines.

@AlanClarke Perhaps add a trivia item about it.

This is yet another thing that IMDb needs to fix. There should definitely be an attribute for extended/director cut credits as many famous actors appear in only these longer cuts. It's hard to say you are the most complete internet movie database when you are missing obvious things like this.
