I saw that Forrest Gump did not have history, comedy, or war listed in its genres. So I submitted those and what I got back was this.

what does this mean? These genres definitely fit Forrest Gump.

It sounds like IMDb has considered these genres before and blocked them.
History definitely doesn't fit, based on IMDb's guideline:

The others may be less clear, but the question is probably whether there is comedy in "virtually all scenes" and whether the war is significant enough in the story.

If I remember correctly the viet nom war drives a large section of the film, and there is comedy in quite a bit of the film.
