The downvote option in the User Reviews Section might still be abolished
"I realize that it would be a huge issue and this idea might sound precariously
revolutionary but the reasons for coming up (no pun intended) with it are quite
obvious. Let me list them briefly.
Point 1.
If someone
– for whatever reasons – didn’t find someone else’s review “useful” it doesn’t
mean there is something wrong with this review. However, one single downvote –
especially if we’re talking about that very common situation when it’s a new
review which doesn’t have any upvotes yet – instantly drives it pretty much out
of the ‘readable zone’. In many cases after two downvotes reviews are officially
‘dead’.
People usually downvote reviews for all the wrong reasons. The most popular – and the most dubious – being disagreement about the movie itself. Like one user can provide a perfectly well-written and impeccably well-grounded favorable review, but if another user simply didn’t like the movie this review automatically gets downvoted. Which evidently doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.
Point 3.I understand that what is mentioned in the previous passage works the other way around too. But the fact is that the consequences of upvoting and downvoting are DRASTICALLY different. For instance, several upvotes basically just mean that a review stays where it was or goes a little higher – which is not necessarily a bad thing. But just a couple of, often – sorry – mindless and totally unjustifiable, downvotes promptly send it to the area where it will never be discovered even through using the Index option (let’s be honest – not many people go beyond Top 50 reviews).
To summarize – if you believe that some stuff deserves more attention you are free to express your opinion. However, you should hardly be given the power to practically single-handedly decide that some other stuff should be seen by no one at all (which is de facto the present state of things). So, if like a review – feel free to upvote. But if you dislike it ... in the immortal words of Wittgenstein – simply “pass over in silence”.I could elaborate on those points and offer countless concrete examples, but I think it will do for starters – considering I do not really see how they can be counter-argued."
... before I realized that I'd never noticed that ...

I was wondering why it's dead calm here, started to 'scrutinize' the page and finally noticed it. For the first time since 2004, I guess. Kinda funny. OK - my bad. In the light of this "tremendous trifle" the above doesn't make much sense. Or, rather, is quite unimportant. However, the downvoting option still doesn't seem to make lots of sense either.
