"television" versus "tv" keywords - How should they be merged?

I've noticed a lot of bifurcation in various keywords that include "tv" and "television." How should those keywords be merged?

My proposal would be as follows:

(1) Use "tv" in keywords that refer to the actual content that appears on television, including shows, programs, series, commercials, news, etc.

(2) Use "television" in most other keywords.

My proposal seems to be where the bifurcated keywords are already headed, in terms of the numbers of existing titles (with some exceptions).

Here is a list showing exactly which keywords I am proposing should be merged. The mergers would be in the directions of the arrows:

1. Keywords to Merge in Favor of "tv"

television-ad (5 titles) --> tv-ad (174 titles) --> tv-advert (190 titles) --> tv-advertisement (6 titles)

television-commercial (381 titles) --> tv-commercial (602 titles)

television-interview (205 titles)  -->  tv-interview (345 titles)

television-news (1092 titles) --> tv-news (822 titles)

television-pilot (25 titles) -->  tv-pilot (423 titles)

television-program (52 titles) --> tv-program (67 titles)

television-series (150 titles) --> tv-series (589 titles)

television-show (499 titles) --> tv-show (951 titles)

2. Keywords to Merge in Favor of "television"

tv (655 titles) --> television (3333 titles)

british-tv (61 titles) --> british-television (30 titles)

cable-tv (39 titles) --> cable-television (57 titles)

live-tv (38 titles) --> live-television (776 titles)

local-tv (91 titles) --> local-television (114 titles)

tv-broadcast (105 titles) --> television-broadcast (175 titles)

tv-camera (98 titles) --> television-camera (89 titles)

tv-crew (131 titles) --> television-crew (70 titles)

tv-director (54 titles)  --> television-director (57 titles)

tv-host (173 titles) --> television-host (84 titles)

tv-network (31 titles) --> television-network (70 titles)

tv-presenter (33 titles) --> television-presenter (188 titles)

tv-producer (125 titles) --> television-producer (157 titles)

tv-reporter (331 titles) --> television-reporter (237 titles)

tv-set (134 titles) --> television-set (453 titles)

tv-star (142 titles) --> television-star (49 titles)

tv-station (134 titles) --> television-station (85 titles)

tv-studio (325 titles)  --> television-studio (182 titles)

watching-tv (4022 titles) --> watching-television (783 titles)

Does anyone have better or additional suggestions? Did I miss any "tv" or "television" keywords?

Bump. Any thoughts from the community on these keywords and my proposals for how to merge them?

With no better reason to prefer 'television', I would probably keep 'watching-tv', the most-used keyword on your list.

watching-television (783 titles)  -->  watching-tv (4022 titles)

"Watching TV" does sound more natural and common than "watching television."  And "watching-tv" is certainly already a more popular keyword.

On the other hand, I was striving for consistency with the lists.

The following keywords also seem to sound better with the "tv" instead of "television," even though that would also break the consistency:

british-television (30 titles) -->  british-tv (61 titles)

cable-television (57 titles) --> cable-tv (39 titles)

@Peter_pbn

I think the answer may be to keep it as "tv" when "tv" would end the keyword, like this:

watching-television (783 titles)  -->  watching-tv (4022 titles)

british-television (30 titles) -->  british-tv (61 titles)

cable-television (57 titles) --> cable-tv (39 titles)

live-television (776 titles) --> live-tv (38 titles)

local-television (114 titles) --> local-tv (91 titles)

I ran Google searches on all five sets of these keywords, and sure enough, the ones with "tv" had more search results. (For "live tv" it was off the charts--about 50 times more popular than "live television.")

To be fair, the same was true with the Google searches for some of the other keywords as well. But not all of them. "Television director" and "TV director," for example, have about the same number of search results. And "television studio" has three times as many Google results as "TV studio."

The other thing about the five sets of keywords listed above is they all seem to refer to the actual content on the screen, similar to the "tv-program" type keywords.  So that would be another reason to keep "tv" in those five keywords.

After posting this thread, I ended up making a formal proposal in a different thread, linked below. However, as I just commented in that other thread, not all of my proposed keyword edits have been made yet.
