Solved

System prompting me to create a new title instead of a merge (Beany and Cecil Meet the Billy the Squid)

Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid

"Matty's Funday Funnies" (1959) {The Greatest Schmoe on Earth/Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid/The Capture of the Dreaded Three Headed Threep (#1.8)}

"Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid" is not a theatrical short film. It is a segment of a TV episode called "The Greatest Schmoe on Earth/Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid/The Capture of the Dreaded Three Headed Threep," which is from the series Matty's Funday Funnies.

I tried to change the title of "Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid" into the title of the episode in order to merge them, but the system did not prompt me to merge the two titles. Instead, it only warned me that I was changing the title type and that I was about create a new title.

I don't want to create a new title. I need to merge "Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid" into the episode of Matty's.

Jay: I tested this and it didn't seem to have a problem.

I tried submitting a Title Correction for Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid (1959) to change the title to

"Matty's Funday Funnies" (1959) {The Greatest Schmoe on Earth/Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid/The Capture of the Dreaded Three Headed Threep (#1.8)}

The explanation I provided was: Beany and Cecil Meet Billy the Squid (1959) is not a theatrical short film. It is a segment of a television episode and should be merged into the episode.

On the next screen, I got two warnings: "There is a mismatch between the title type of the old and new titles...." and "The new title already exists in IMDb...." I checked both boxes for "Warning understood, go ahead anyway." I clicked "Re-check these updates" and the form turned green for "ready to submit".

I didn't actually click to submit the update but it ought to work properly.

@gromit82Thank you gromit for testing it out!

@jay_spirit Hi-

Have you been able to test/try it again to see if it works for you?

Cheers!

Those are the same two warning messages I got, but the system is supposed to warn us of a merge when requesting one. Neither of the two warnings mentioned a merge.

For example, here's what I see when I request a merge of two podcast episodes:

I'm worried that without the merge warning, I'll just convert the theatrical short into a duplicate TV episode. In part, the worry comes from a vague memory of that having happened before. I could be wrong.

If the staff wants me to try it anyway and see what happens, I'm willing to try it.

Jay: Here is how the warning screen looked when I tested it.

There may be a difference between this situation and the "Ben Shapiro" situation you illustrated above because this situation is structured as a Title Correction while the "Ben Shapiro" episode correction is structured as an Episode Title/Number correction.

But, in both cases, there is a merge warning: "Are you sure you want to merge this title ..." or "Are you sure you want to merge all data of this episode ...."

That's weird. I'll try it again. I didn't see the merge warning.

@gromit82

I see what I did now. I didn't use the correct format when including the episode number. I tried it again and saw the warning for the merge, and so I submitted it.

Problem solved. Thanks to you and @Maya.
