Suggestions for revised functions/missing a removed function

A couple of things have occurred to me lately which would, I think, be useful:

1. The option to "suggest as main image" for an overall series. We have this for individual episodes of a TV series, but I've often seen the image for an overall series feature some minor character who is in no way representative, etc.

2. It would be nice if the option to choose names to go with an image only brought up the names in a particular episode. Otherwise it's incredibly difficult if, say, you're creating screenshots for a long-running series with a new cast each week (say, Play for Today).

As for the thing I miss... I used to love it when you could look at a TV series and select a view that ordered the episodes of the entire series in order of their user ratings. That was a real fun element that seems to have been removed?

Regarding #1, from

https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/images-videos/how-do-i-update-my-poster/GA8N34CWGUMJJM98?ref_=helpsrall#

Title Poster Images

A "poster" image can be displayed in the top left of the title page - otherwise known as a "primary" poster. You are able to submit more than one poster to a title, but can only have 1 'primary' poster at a time. Your choice should strike a good balance between the following criteria:

  • For Movies - The most iconic and widely-recognized poster, of the best image quality. English language posters are preferred if available, although we may exercise editorial discretion to override this in some special cases.

  • For Episodes - Still frame of acceptable quality which best represents the episode's plot or key characters in that episode.

  • For TV Series - The most iconic and widely-recognized poster, preferably from the original airing of the first season. The poster should be of the best image quality. English language posters are preferred if available, although we may exercise editorial discretion to override this in some special cases.

In other words, a TV series needs a Poster, while an episode needs a Still Frame. So to select a new primary image, you need to look in the Gallery among the Posters (or upload a new one).

Regarding #2: Absolutely agree.

Regarding the last paragraph: You can do that with Advanced Title Search, with a URL adjustment.

For instance,

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096697/

viewed in the "old version", has a link in the right column under the top 3 episodes that says

See more episodes »

namely:

https://www.imdb.com/search/title/?series=tt0096697&view=simple&count=250&sort=user_rating,desc

Just replace the title constant (tt0096697) with the series you want to sort.

OR, after setting up some other Advanced Title Search, add

&series=ttconstant

to the url.

(BTW, the rule for when that feature appears on the Series page is that the top 3 rated episodes need plot outlines. I don't see that feature on the New Version.)

PS, you may want to vote for your own Idea.

@bderoes Thank you for that, that's really useful.

I see now about the "poster" option for TV series. I think the problem I've had is that most of the TV shows I've been updating are obscure old UK TV shows with hardly any promotional material, so there's been no "poster" to choose from.

Regarding links to top episodes: "The Episodes section now includes a link to all top-rated episodes for TV series." (Title pages — new version available for sneak peek)

Wow, Peter get's the eagle-eye award again.

It took me a while to find it. I was looking nearer the cited Top-rated episode, but it's at the bottom of the section. And it does the ATS I referred to above.
