Suggestion: better job credit prioritization (more credence to director, less to producer, less to writer)
People have a way of prioritizing roles of importance in how they think of people. I think the order is generally Director > Writer > Producer. Then for actor, it sort of depends, probably more on if they've done more acting roles or directing roles. I think IMDb simply sorts it by # of roles.
I'll give you some examples.
Quentin Tarantino "Writer | Actor | Producer" - People think of him as a director first. Basically a director/writer/actor/producer.
Christopher Nolan (I) "Writer | Producer | Director" - People think of him as a director first.
Martin Scorsese "Producer | Director | Actor" - from wiki: "Martin Charles Scorsese is an Italian-American film director, screenwriter, producer, and actor"
Clint Eastwood "Actor | Producer | Director" - Most people would probably say he's a great actor and director.
Woody Allen "Writer | Director | Actor" - from wikipedia: ""Woody" Allen is an American director, writer, actor"
Alfonso Cuarón 'Writer | Producer | Director" - from wikipedia: "Alfonso Cuarón is a Mexican film director, screenwriter, producer, cinematographer, and editor."
Billy Wilder (I) "Writer | Director | Producer" - from wikipedia: "Billy Wilder was an Austrian-born American film director and screenwriter whose career spanned more than five decades"
Adam Savage "Producer | Actor | Visual Effects" - Mythbusters star...I never even knew he produced things.
I'm not sure what criteria should establish the most important role for a person, but something is off by doing a simple count comparison.
This also "messes up" the Known For section I think, as it says Tarantino is known for Reservoir Dogs: Writer. Woody Allen Known for Manhattan: Writer. Adam Savage known for Mythbusters: Producer.
This is all of course entirely debatable about which role is most "important", but the fact that Wikipedia seems to be ordering these roles that way seems to support how the public generally views the order of importance for each role.
