Submitting names for Marriage Details

There appears to be an error in the help text for Marriage Details.

The instructions say:

The spouse name should be submitted in the format First name Last name (i.e. Paul Newman)

So, for example, I was submitting the spouse's name for Kelly Eberflus. She is new to the database recently, but her husband, Matt Eberflus, has been listed in IMDb for a few years.

Starting from Kelly's page, I followed the instructions and entered her spouse's name: Matt Eberflus, checked the box for "Listed in IMDb", and then clicked "Check these updates".

And on the next screen I got the message:

The following fixes have been applied automatically.

  • The name 'Matt Eberflus' has been converted to 'Eberflus, Matt'

It seems that the instruction in the help text to list the spouse first name first, rather than inverted (as in "i.e. Paul Newman") is either irrelevant or overgeneralized or something.

Please have the help text revised to indicate how the spouse's name needs to be provided, and if it is different when the spouse is or isn't listed in IMDb, please provide both instructions.

Hi @gromit82,

The Help guide correctly instructs contributors to provide the spouse name as "firstname surname", as if the name is listed on IMDb, it will automatically match and transfer it to the listed name, formatted as "surname, firstname", because of the way names are stored in our system. There is no need to explain the differences here because of the system's automatic formatting match if the name is listed on IMDb.

I hope this helps!
