Submit New Title Assistant (Beta)

Submit New Title Assistant (Beta)

Over the next few weeks, we will be trialing a beta feature designed to streamline adding a title to IMDb. This tool guides you through submitting new titles with a conversational approach. This beta feature will be available to a subset of users on the existing New Title contribution form. The New Title Assistant is currently optional and in testing. For the most comprehensive experience, you can always use the standard contribution form.Your feedback is important to us - we encourage you to share your thoughts and feedback in this thread.- The IMDb Team

"currently optional"

Does "currently" mean that the plan is to later make i mandatory?

@kristin No, not at all, the “currently” really applies to the fact that it is currently in testing and currently only available to a subset of contributors. We hope to make it available to everyone if the test is successful, but it is more aimed at novice contributors.  The existing new title form will remain available for more experienced contributors.

I tested a bit, adding a TV show.

The genre dropdown box didn't include all the existing genres. I had to select a genre to continue. Some items appear to be mandatory in the chat even though they are not mandatory in the form.

I was asked for a release year twice, but not date or month. I also selected the release type. When returning to the form at the end of the chat, the release type was not filled in and I had to select it again. Also, the top of the form was red because I had to select "on-going" or add an end year. If I was a newbie I would probably be confused.

@Col_Needham Gave up using this new form, as @Peter_pbn writes, Genres are missing, I am trying to add a TV series with Genre "News", that is not on the drop-down in the form so I could not then get any further.

I am on Windows 11 - Firefox Browser

PS: HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Thanks for testing this feature Peter_pbn and kristin!

The team are working on updates based on your feedback. All existing genres should be included by end of day, and we've made a change to auto-complete release date year based on the title year.

Please let us know if you experience other issues or have further suggestions as to how we can improve this feature.

Many thanks, and a Happy New Year,

Mark

@Mark13

So, I tried this again,(Using PC, windows 11, Firefox) I really miss there is no "back to previous step" or similar. I'm adding a new documentary tv series that has not aired yet, I need 3 credits the form says, I answered "no" to the question if I know how the director is, later when searching the web for 3 cast members, I found out who the director is. But there is no "back" option, after adding the host as "self" I get : "We need two more credits. Which type would you like to add next?" and a list of choices, but the "director" is not on that list (since I already answered NO).

So either the director should be on the "button list" , or there should be a "back one step" option i think.

I ended up "X" ing out and starting all over again from start so I can get my 3 cast/crew and get  further.

You write:

No, that does not happen.

as @Peter_pbn  wrote:

re-check buttonNOW, the check for if it is an existing title comes in, after I am done with the chat dialogue..

"We already have titles which are similar to '"Golden vs. Zuckerberg" (2026)', are you sure it's not one of these? :-"

Check "This is not an existing title."re-check button

Should not the "existing title" check come in the beginning of the chat, and not after you are done with the chat and are transferred to the "old" manual form?

and now I have to fill inn Release country and date? ( in the old manual form)

In the "chat" i did get the question:

What year was it or will it be released?

I did not get any question in the chat about  if I know which date it will be released ?

why?

Rest is now in the manual "old" form I have been transferred to.

   re-check

I have to answer about color, this the chat boot should be able to ask about?

----------This I understand is difficult in the chat bot:

This item has warnings, you must acknowledge each one before this item will be accepted.

The 'Documentary' genre is only for use in full documentaries.    Please see the genre guide for more information & only click to ignore this warning if this genre still applies after reading.

     Warning understood, go ahead anyway.

-----------

Re check

Now i finally get the " Submit these updates" button

Before I "Submit these updates" I did have to manually fill inn Role "Host" The chat form does not have any questions whether I know what role the person has in the production. (Don't know if this is because I only tested adding "self")

I also wish for an option after Language and genre "click here if there are more than one language/genres etc" (an option you click IF there is mor than one, but that you DONT have to click to get to the next question.)

Also did fill in manually in old form: Running times, distributors, plot outline, keywords, additional languages.

Thanks for the detailed feedback kristin!

I'll pass this on to the team and see what we can do to address these issues.

Thanks,

Mark
