Struggling to get a deletion accepted...

When I first looked at the Wogan chatshow some months ago, it was in something of a mess, with ISTR 200-300 episodes dated but listed as "unknown", while several episodes didn't even exist on the system: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083504

I made it a personal project to tidy it up, and built the episode list from the ground up using BBC Genome.

As great as Genome is, it's based on the Radio Times listings, so it's the SCHEDULED shows, published sometimes over a week in advance. It's just a listing of what's DUE to be aired.

But as Wogan was a LIVE show, occasionally they'd pull it from the schedules - more so as it went on and became less popular - often at short notice.

Adding details of the ratings for a certain week, I found that an edition wasn't included in the BARB ratings, and that on the DAY of broadcast, the Times had listed football in its place. This is episode 8.73: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13637124

My first request for deletion was rejected as unable to verify, so I sent extra data, as below, to clarify:

I received an email back a couple of weeks ago saying they'd delete it if I agreed that I was prepared to go through the following episodes and submit renumbering requests for them.
This struck me as incredibly strange. While I mailed back that, yes, I WOULD be prepared to do that, I don't see how that has ANY bearing on the deletion? Okay, you'd be left with wrong numbers, but the decision to delete it or not shouldn't be on a bargaining chip for accurate numbering, the edition shouldn't be on the IMDb as it doesn't EXIST.
This was a couple of weeks ago and this non-existent episode (remember, it was a LIVE show, so it wasn't recorded and then reshown at a later date, it was just canned for the night) is still on the system.

@Michelle Thank you Michelle. Now for the hard part... putting in renumbering requests for 78 episodes.

@Michelle Strictly Come Dancing is a UK show that's run from 2004 to the present date. New seasons don't get their own title, they just get added to the existing one, including 2011/2012: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0411027/reference

However, someone created Strictly Come Dancing 2011/2012 as its own existing title - which contains the same information: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2396143/reference

Really, it needs merging or wiping as a duplicate title. I mailed yesterday, and got this response:

Our aim is to be the most complete and reliable source of movie information on the web. Therefore, in order to keep offering our users an accurate and trustworthy service, it is our policy not to alter or delete any kind of correct/factual information or credit from our records.

In line with this policy, we cannot delete this title because it exists and was available to the public in some form as per the release date here:

I hadn't noticed the 2009+ genome bit... it seems less user-friendly than before, though? (I note if I select "TV shows only" on filter I usually get nothing in results.)

You're right about the M,W,F, I forgot to say. Though it's a moot point, as the reasoning was accepted... but then wasn't done. With this weird "you do the numbering and we'll delete it" thing.

But... as you asked. I forgot people weren't psychic. It stands for Monday, Wednesday, Friday.

Hi MovieCat -

Just to clarify, the episode title you are trying to remove is "Episode #8.73", is that correct?

@Michelle Thanks Michelle, I deleted my post as the deletion went through about 10 minutes after I posted it - typical! :D

It's killing me having to do all these renumberings... I've finally completed 1992, but still working through 88/89/90.
