SQL scripts provided by IMDB?
Dear IMDB community,
Someone I know made a suggestion to IMDB, and the friendly and caring IMDB responder suggested to make a post on this forum. I am here to create that post. The IMDB responder communicated about a vote that could be held in the thread, so as to gauge interest and the like, which may help with future improvements. Please read further below.
ESSENTIAL IDEA/QUESTION
Should IMDB provide SQL scripts to automatically create and populate the IMDB database?
Reason
It might be too great a task or too cumbersome a task for someone outside of IMDB to create and populate the database using SQL. IMDB.com Inc., on the other hand, probably has sufficient resources to carry this out as well as to maintain it where necessary.
Further matters
If this would be done, then it would be done for at least the major SQL dialects (such as SQLite, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and so on).
Part of the idea is to keep the currently existing and currently maintained TSV files and to provide the SQL scripts to work with these files. Perhaps there is a better way.
The database would also have properly linked tables with keys where appropriate.
