Soundtrack Dancing Credits
This is a follow-up to the conversation titled “How to list Dancing in the Soundtracks without the Song” from 10 months ago (https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/how-to-list-dancing-in-the-soundtracks-without-the-song).
Will, the IMDb rep, answered the questioner as follows:
“Unfortunately this is a breach of our policies as the dancer did not perform either the music or the vocals for the song in question [and] therefore is ineligible for the soundtrack section. You may enter this information in the Trivia section though.”
As often happens when a clarification appears in an answer to a contributor on this forum, the policy stated above has never been added to the Soundtrack section. Given that the Get Satisfaction board is ignored by many contributors (such as Les Adams, the mister-know-it-all of the Western genre), I suggest that something like the following introduction be added to the Soundtrack submission guide:
“Credits in this section are for songwriters, composers, lyricists, and the people who perform the songs/orchestral works written by them. This includes musicians and vocalists (whether by singing, humming, whistling, or other vocalizaton), but does NOT include dancers who do not vocally perform the song to which they dance. Such dance performances can be listed in the film’s Trivia section.”
As a consequence of this, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Ruby Keeler, and other dancers will lose numerous Soundtrack credits, but transferring these credits to the films’ Trivia sections will help boost the contribution totals of regular contributors.
