Solved

Sorting watchlist by release date is broken on the app on iOS.

This was an issue about a year ago or so, I reported it but I can't find it the thread for some reason so I am creating a new one. When sorting your watchlist on the iOS app, by release date, not everything is where it should be. I'm positive it was fixed and working until recently.

Using the latest version of iOS, iPhone 17, latest version of the IMDb app.

This is not an issue with Safari on mobile, it's just the app.

Thanks for the problem report, however, as last time this is not an issue with the app, but instead is due to faulty local release data for Canada.  The reason for the difference between the site and the app is that the app uses local release dates for watchlist sort orders, whereas the site still uses the (less helpful) earliest release date.  We have fixed the Canadian release dates of the three titles shown in your screen-shot and the sort order should be correct within the next few hours.  Please let us know if there are other titles with incorrect Canadian release dates which are out of sequence in your watchlist.

Local release dates doesn’t make sense though —  you must mean latest release dates (theatrical re-releases, 4K versions, or more likely when they became available for streaming), because there’s no way some of these films from the 60s-90s didn’t release until 2020-2025  in Canada.

There’s hundreds of them that I am aware of from my watchlist alone, and I’m sure there are thousands more. There must be a better solution to this than changing them manually one by one.

Since there is theatrical release information on all of these titles (the year shown right next to the title is the original release), may I suggest adding two separate sort options in the watchlist dropdown:

• Original Release Date (using the primary year shown next to each title)

• Latest/Regional Release Date (current behavior for availability)

I completely understand why the app prioritizes local availability dates for users who want to see when a title became watchable in their region, but for chronological browsing by original release, it creates confusion when the displayed year doesn’t match the sort order. Offering both options would resolve this for everyone without removing useful info.

I’ve also included a screenshot of just a portion of them that are incorrectly grouped under 2021.

Thank you for taking the time to read this — I really appreciate how responsive the team is to feedback, ultimately though I think this would be a popular and important improvement for many long-time users.

Thanks
