sopranos quote declined

Greetings

my recent Sopranos quote( 230220-175751-740000) was declined and it's only six lines so I don't believe it violate the brief policy, so can someone from the imdb staff elaborate this particular quote was declined?

Hi @assmn108 -

This episode quote has now been approved and should be live on the site shortly.

Cheers!

hi @Michelle, I was wondering you could elaborate something for me. Your colleague Bethany recently deleted of all of my Shark Tank submissions which really disappointed me because I put in a lot of time and effort into it which was to add content and/or data into a Internet Movie Database and quite a few other submissions have been declined (by I don't know who) since then. Why does a quote submission have to be brief and "memorable" and "interesting"? What one individual finds interesting someone else may not. I feel a quote is a quote, no matter how long or short it is, as long as it's from that particular movie and/or tv show it should be approved. Also, I was wondering why quotes have to be brief? Is it a logistical or technical issue? If a dialog is long and is broken up into sections to comply with the "brief" policy and some sections are approved and aren't, isn't that dialog going to be incomplete and I don't think imdb wants incomplete content and/or data on it's database. My last question is last year I had no issues submitting the long Shark Tank posts, why all of sudden long submissions are no longer allowed?

thank you for your help

@assmn108 Probably to avoid tons of copyright infringing transcripts clogging up the site and legal issues resulting from such.

@VonPunk thank you for your intervention and with all respect, and to avoid peculation from you and other members, I prefer to hear from someone within the imdb staff, I took it very personal that all my hard work was deleted without notice

thanks again

Hi @assmn108 -

Currently, we do not have a specific guideline on character length requirement for title quotes, and the length can vary across the site (from single lines to multiple lines, for example, see "The Godfather") .

Concerning your previous quote submissions for "Shark Tank" (ie. 230125-132559-160000) I can see that it was declined because it was more of a dialogue of the scene versus a snippet of significant dialogue.  Ideally for title quotes, we are more specifically looking to capture significant/memorable dialogue.  While I agree, something one person finds memorable may not be perceived the same to another, and that is okay as different quotes resonate with different people, but we want to avoid a lengthy dialogue exchange.

I hope this helps!

@Michelle

I understand, may I ask why imdb would want to avoid a lengthy dialog?

Hi @assmn108 -

Brevity is our established guideline, for more information on the current guidelines I encourage you to review our Quotes Help Guide.

I understand, a few more questions if I may:

1. I used to be able to submit long dialogs before, which were the shark tank submissions that were deleted, why suddenly it's not allowed anymore?

2. if I submit "snippets" from a long dialog that are considered significant/memorable, they'll be approved, is this correct?

thanks for all your help

Hi @assmn108 -

In answering your questions, 1) for the previously approved "Shark Tank" quotes, if they were later deemed ineligible and removed this means that they were initially approved in error, and 2) ideally, yes if they meet our guidelines then they should be approved.

Cheers!
