Somebody has submitted false reports against items in the IMDb parents guide for "Tomboy", causing the items to be deleted.

Hard to know when, how many times or how frequently the deletions occurred, for Tomboy, but it had to have been sometime during or throughout the year 2018 or thereafter. The various deletions may or may not have been commenced in good faith, as a contributor may have based his or her reports off the absence of content in a censored version of the movie (the existence of which is merely hypothetical), but there are signs of malicious (prank-like) adjustments. Notably all usages of the adjective "transgender" were removed.

The most appropriate remedy for this problem may be, if at all possible, the reversion the entire guide back to the condition it was in right after the migration from the swiki system to the current system. (Just to note, this just goes to show that the current system is no less prone to abuse than the retired one.) In addition (or as an alternative) to that remedy, it would be splendid if an investigation of the contributors involved could be carried out for the purposes of assessing whether or not submissions made against the guide are part of a pattern of behavior toward the website overall. If the pattern is of an abusive variety, then something ought to be done to prevent future offenses.

I would appreciate a thoughtful response from the people or institutions who have power to address the deletions and accordingly mitigate the problem at hand. Thank you.

Hi Jeorj -

As I understand the issue, there were valid items displayed on the Parental Guide for the title "Tomboy (2011)" that were removed.

Due to past system updates, staff can no longer revert Parental Guides to a previous state, instead we now allow for updates to be made through the "Edit" option which are then reviewed by our editors.

If there are missing items, I would encourage you to re-add them through the "Edit" option.  Otherwise, If you notice constant issues of sabotage/vandalism/invalid removals of data, etc. please report these to our Support Team via our contact form.

Thanks!

I suppose that the IMDb site authorities are already aware of my disappointment with the newer mechanics, as I found the swiki system to be superior despite some abusive incidents directed through it, so there is no point to me belaboring this. Michelle, I do appreciate that you've taken the time to provide something of an explanation. I wish that I could know why the particular items were deleted. I mean, in general, it would be nice to be able to uncover explanations for why any major edit is undertaken against anything in any parents' guide. I've tried to explain this stuff to other contributors (e.g. Marco and Peter), but either they don't understand or don't care. I do see how maybe the current system makes it easier for contribution points to be awarded for expanding or correcting parents guides, though.

In the case of Tomboy, going forward, I will see what I can do to repair the guide. I've noticed that items in each section of a guide usually appear in the order in which they were created, and I think it would be great if there was a feature adjust the order, sans the complications that may arise when contributors might have disputes about what constitutes the most appropriate ordering. I really don't remember a lot of fusses, hassles and frustrations with the swiki system, and perhaps I simply wasn't aware of them.

I may have to create a new thread requesting feedback on how best to describe the main character of Tomboy, but this might be pointless, since there is little hope of the expectation of responses at all, let alone the expressions of informed opinions. The forum rarely sees complaints or questions about parents guides, and when it does, those threads are focused on the presence of content rather than the absence of content, so I'm, so to speak, dying alone on this hill.

I do care. I was very happy when IMDb decided to retire all swiki areas because I feel it's much better if contributions are send to paid members of IMDb (or their automated checks) and then make it online (or not of course) instead of giving everybody and their mother the opportunity to enter everything they want.

That being said, I agree it would be very useful if IMDb could revert Parents Guides (or any section of the database for that matter) to a previous state.
