Smallville cast wrong year

Hello, I can't edit this through the web and I honestly don't know what to do except posting this.

The main cast in Smallville http://imdb.com/title/tt0279600/?ref_=nm_flmg_t_10_act show XXX Episodes · 2001-2017, even though the last episode was aired on 2011. I don't even know how it is possible for this to happen (2017 showing up as last time worked on the series) because the last episode's date is correct (13 May 2011) and there is no possibility for the system to introduce an apparently random 2017 out of nowhere. This must be corrected.

PS: it'd be nice to know what's the correct procedure when we see some wrong data and we cannot edit it. No support email, nothing?

It's the Unaired Pilot which is listed as being released in 2017. I'm not sure if anything can be done to change the display.

The trivia says it was first released in 2003. If that is true, the date could be added and the display would probably change.

Hi @Agent_X -

Thanks for reporting this display.  I have filed a ticket (#P85348633) for the appropriate team to investigate the display logic, as soon as I have an update I will replay the information here.

Cheers!

On Tom Welling page there is no way to correct a certain error. The Actor past credits include Smallville and it says 2001-2017 which is not correct and has no way to edit that. It should read 2001-2011

This has happened because someone has added dates to an Unaired Pilot, claims in trivia say it was released on a Season 1 dvd in 2003 but the airdates are all between 2017 to 2021 for DVD releases in Middle East & Asian countries. I cannot find any evidence to corroborate those dates but there's some good investigators on here that might be able to.

In what I could find, some of these countries just had DVD imports from the UK rather than their own versions for sale.

It could be dates added just to troll fans who are seeking that grail of an episode or even to scam them into buying DVD sets at high prices from the person who added that data, could even just be a fanmade using the released version and deleted footage since some scenes were just reshot with a different actress playing Martha rather than a whole new pilot being made (bootleg original scenes have long been around: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8dFQacmwV4), hopefully someone can get to the bottom of it.

If those release dates and that trivia cannot be verified they should be deleted.

I wrote a reply to @VonPunk on this thread: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/on-tom-welling-page-there-is-no-way-to-correct-a-certain-error/6465dbe8a4c6a26bcd0dbe61?commentId=64664b3a5dbf510a3f2453fd

But when I pressed the Post button the thread was merged with this one so I couldn't post it, and for some reason his reply was not moved during the thread merge?

Anyway posting it here instead:

"@VonPunk Yeah all of these release dates on unaired pilot page are wrong. I had a decent look for this when the previous thread Peter referenced below posted, I was gonna post a reply to that thread but then I forgot about it.

I visited a lot of fan forums and communities and read about it and I checked that DVD release mentioned in the trivia entry. What I gathered by checking all of these is that this unaired pilot is never released officially in any form. I think there is only a bootleg thing around which is sold unofficially by some people (it could even be a fanmade thing like you say). But there is no official release, and there never has been.

Trivia item comes from the confusion that first two "aired" episodes of the series are sometimes included in DVD releases as one "extended pilot", and people sometimes confuse it as being the unaired pilot when in fact it's just the first two "aired" episodes, not the unaired pilot.

There is no unaired pilot in any DVD or Blu-ray releases. These release dates come from some bad release date adders, I see a lot of bad release date additions for these regions by someone or someones, I think with some automation involved because when there is a 1.0 episode in a series they add dates to that incorrectly instead of adding to 1.1. The same happened here obviously.

There's a clip of the DVD menus of that mentioned season 1 dvd release in trivia: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqrZO0yT_Fw

So in conclusion all of these release dates and also trivia item should be deleted. Maybe a year only "2001" date can be added like how it was before (to prevent it to appear in "Upcoming" section of name pages): https://web.archive.org/web/20060430081955/http://imdb.com/title/tt0703023/releaseinfo

I know that 2001 year wouldn't really be accurate since it's not released at that time but unaired pilot listings are exceptions to the rules anyway as normally it shouldn't even allowed to be listed to begin with. And from what I remember adding a year only date is a common practice with these unaired pilot listings, so it should be OK I think."

@mbmb Excellent stuff. Your final summary confirms an easy solve to the problem.

I wasn't aware of the earlier thread that @Peter_pbn highlighted but hopefully once solved it'll stop flummoxing fans of the series.

If the Unaired Pilot remains as a page someone should add a trivia piece or FAQ about it never being released on DVD despite false claims saying it has.

Hi All -

Just reviewing this older thread to confirm that there is an open ticket (#P85348633) for the appropriate team to review the display of the series year-range for cast credits.  Once there are any updates I will be sure to post the details here.

Cheers!

Smallville is currently showing an airing date of 2001-2017. The end date should be 2011. It doesn’t appear to be a field I can edit as a contributor.

@kimberlynissen  The year range is derived automatically from the public release date of the earliest episode to the public release date of the latest episode.  You can always check this from the episode guide page for the show — in this case, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0279600/episodes/?year=2017 due to https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0703023/releaseinfo/ the original pilot was not released anywhere until 2017.  Unless you have evidence otherwise, in which case it can be added to the release date section of S1.E0.

Hope this helps.

A previous thread on this here: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/smallville-cast-wrong-year/642b6715c7087e024ed22bda

Not sure if that ticket mentioned in it is still open or not.
