Should Martin Vale(I) be renamed to Marguerite Vale Veiller

Martin Vale is a pseudonym and not an actual person. It was pretty commonplace during the studio system for women to adopt a man's name to make their work more sellable. The name should be listed under the actual person's name Marguerite Vale Veiller with the as attribute where she was credited as Martin Vale.

I hate to just change this name but it only seems to be associated with versions of The Two Mrs. Carrolls.

@Peter_pbn

Can we discuss how stupid that rule is with fake names?

Literally no such person as Martin Vale exists. In 2023, are you advocating for continuing the misogyny from the 1950s  where women would chose a male moniker to get their screenplays accepted because it literally sounds like you are okay with misogyny.

Also, you are completely ignoring or ignorant of the fact this rule is never actually enforced. You could not actually edit data without noticing that many people have way more "as" attributes then credits under the IMDb names.

I think if they made a movie based on this now, they'd most likely credit her under her real name on it.

Seems a little silly to know the page is actually a woman and see all the 'He' written on the bio.

I think if it was under her real name with Martin Vale attributes and a touch up to her bio, it'd be more accurate and interesting historically. I hope the staff that reply to this thread might respond favourably to a change too.

I submitted a gender correction from Male to Female.

The generated biography at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0883901/bio?ref_=nm_ov_bio_sm now says "She was a writer..." and the display at https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0883901/ has also been updated.

Someone may wish to write a short biography to replace the generated one but I think the name should remain as it is to reflect how I assume it is shown in the credits (I have not been able to verify that).

A printed edition of one of her plays is available at https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=31146910317&searchurl=an%3Dmartin%2Bvale%2Bmarguerite%2Bveiller%26pt%3Dbook%26sortby%3D17&cm_sp=snippet-_-srp1-_-title1 with an image showing the author named as Martin Vale. A poster for a production of that play is shown at https://www.leaspavilionarchive.org.uk/performance/the-two-mrs-carrolls where it says 'by Marguerite Veiller'.

I have also submitted corrections to her 'other works' that said 'His play' in some places. Current guidelines say entries should be like '(date) Stage play: ...' so I changed to that. On reflection, these may not be sensible 'other works' entries for the author of a play but I do not know whether or not she had any direct involvement in the listed productions.
