Should errors in on-screen credits be used on IMDb?

If the credits to a film etc. are incorrect, should the inaccuracies be displayed in the IMDb credits, in the Crazy Credits section or in the Goofs section?

Examples:

1) John Smith is credited in a film as "Jon Smith", but has never been credited as that anywhere else, because it's never been his name. Should he receive the "(as Jon Smith)" attribute? If he was somehow credited as "John Smitwh", an obvious typo and not anyone's name, should he receive an attribute?

2) The film's credits list someone as 3rd Assistant Director, but they were actually the 2nd Assistant Director. Which one should they be credited as? Or should they be credited as both but with the "(credit only)" and "(uncredited)" attributes respectively?

3) A film released online has mistakes in the credits and is replaced with a corrected version. The corrected version is no longer the original release of the film. Do the credits given in the new version make it to IMDb?

Hi Matt, looks like you already have an answer to the first question (thanks) - please use an 'as' attribute.

For 2., please list the names and roles as they appeared in the credits. If it is of particular interest you can call out the mistake in a trivia item.

For 3., we list credits as they appear in the original version of a title's credits whenever possible. There may be cases where a title is uploaded online for only a short time, then deleted and replaced with a newer version, in which case it might be impossible for us to know for sure (hence the 'whenever possible' call out).

I hope that helps,
Tom

Thanks. For 2), if it's particularly obvious that the credit is a mistake, say if somehow the closing credits roll had the leading man's and woman's names switched around, so that the woman was credited as "John" and the man was credited as "Jane", and it is confirmed by the film-makers that this is a mistake, would we still credit them on IMDb exactly as it appears in the closing credits?

Following up on Nobody's answer, the links below are from an episode of the TV series "Silk Stalkings:"

Goofs page
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0700624/goofs

A statement explaining that because of a production error, the credited composers of the episode and the theme music were switched.

Episode page:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0700624/combined

In the "Original Music By" section, Mike Post was the credited composer. The actual composer(s) were Danny Lux and Roger Neill. The names of Lux and Neill are given (uncredited) in the attribute section.

In the "Music Department" section, Lux and Neill were credited as composing the TV theme music. Post was the actual composer and is listed as (uncredited) in the attribute section.

In my opinion, any credit errors should be noted in the Goofs section and noted with the actual performer's credit with an uncredited attribute.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

In that case I'd have guessed the credited composer should be listed in the credits with a "(credit only)" attribute (like actors who acted but had their part edited out or not used) and the replacement composers listed as "(uncedited)".

Since it was an error, I guess it could also be a goof.

A help page says IMDb wants "... to record the way the credits appeared on screen. If [a] name is spelled wrong on the screen, [IMDb] still want[s] to record that fact."  (That page mentions the use of the "as"  attribute for misspelled credits.)

Another help page includes this note:
"... Always remember the golden ruleSite credits matching
those that appear onscreen must never be changed.
