Shorts incorrectly listed as wide theatrical releases
In the thread at https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/no-actors-credits, IMDb staffer Marv encouraged people to suggest ways to deal with short films being incorrectly submitted with release dates without attributes. A release date with no attribute is supposed to mean a wide release (which, in the USA, would be at least 600 theaters), which few short films actually receive.
I suggest that if a release date is submitted for a short theatrical film (whether a newly submitted film or an already listed title), and there is no attribute listed for the release date, there should be a red (mandatory) warning requiring an explanation. The warning should say that a release date with no attribute means a wide national release.
If the short actually has been released or will be released widely, the contributor should have to provide an explanation describing the circumstances, preferably including a URL as proof.
If the short's release is not a wide theatrical release, then the contributor should be required to include a proper attribute so as to describe the circumstances of the release.
