Series vs. individual titles (MTV Awards related)

Hello I was just wondering why the MTV Video Music Awards exist as individual titles (2022 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt19796422/ ) while the MTV Europe Music Awards are uploaded as a series and each title as an episode (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15441870/?ref_=tt_ov_inf and very recent 2022 event https://www.imdb.com/title/tt20517196/

Is there any logical reason behind it or is it simply a question of how it is handled when the titles are created in the first place and both is possible? I also think that the EMAs existed as individual titles once too before they were collected as a series.

Horst: The listing of the MTV Video Music Awards as separate individual titles is correct, and the MTV Europe Music Awards should not be listed as a series. This is based on the discussion at https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/annual-tv-shows-like-award-shows-can-i-add-them-as-a-tv-series-and-then-add-each-year-as-an-episode/5f4a79ae8815453dba85bdc2 .

In that discussion, I wrote, "For annual award shows and similar annual shows, I believe the most common and preferred practice is to list each year's edition as a separate TV special." Col Needham, the founder of IMDb, responded, "gromit82's answer is correct (and hereby official :-)".

Thank you Gromit. It should be quite an effort though to reverse this false listing as a series. As I stated earlier, I wrote that I think I remember that those titles (that are now episodes) existed as individual titles in the past. Is it perhaps possible by somebody from the imdb team to reverse these false submissions afterwards that turned them into episodes?

Hello thank you Bethanny for taking care of this. Just a quick follow-up: The titles are now called for example "Düsseldorf 2022", which is not particularly accurate. Yoou might wanna replace the name of the hosting city with "MTV Europe Music Awards" in there.

I think the issue was specifically only with this one, if I'm not mistaken the rest show to me as MTV Europe Music Awards. Let me know if any others don't.

That is strange, for me they don't. The one above is still called "Düsseldorf 2022" and another one I have is this one here https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7596854/ which says London 2017. I do not have every one of those, just might be able to dig out another 2 or 3 from my rating history, but it is essentially all of those you just turned from episodes into standalone titles.

There are alternate titles, but the primary titles remain the same. Aside from that, the titles should have the (TV) tag. Your tools may need adjusting.

I just corrected the first show, tt0495855 (I found that the first show was called MTV European Music Awards)

I have submitted title corrections for all years. In recent years they have mostly used the abbreviation MTV EMA.

This is an annual awards show and should not be listed as a series. Can you turn it into individual titles while making sure that each one of them also contains "Sportler des Jahres" in front of the year. Right now, all the episodes are listed as the number of year simply.
