Season numbers for The Matt Walsh Show

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt8356486/episodes?year=2021

Someone changed the season numbers of this series for the years 2019 to 2021 without changing the episode numbers, which are continuous.

The episodes are now listed as having seasons 2, 3, 4 and 5, while the episode numbers themselves have not been changed. (Nor should they be.)

All the episodes of every year should be listed as season one. The series should go from 1.1 to 1.1137 (its most recent episode).

The contributor who did this may be in the process of changing the season number for the rest of the episodes. If so, he should be stopped.

Does IMDb's documentation of podcasts work the same way as IMDb's documentation of soap operas? I do suppose so. Or might it be up to the studio behind a given series? I reckon the general gist of the guidelines is that shows run continuously throughout the year without taking a break for the duration of a calendar-wise season (e.g. spring, summer, autumn or winter) don't group the episodes of each show into separate seasons.

@jeorj_euler Hopefully I can share info that is of interest. The only two podcasts I do, one mentions in the synopsis's on the official releases that they are 'Season Premiere' or 'Season 2 finale' etc but it does take breaks inbetween. The other runs all year but the host usually verbally says when an episode is the start of a new season usually around the yearly anniversary, I add episode numbers accordingly. So sometimes you can know but I imagine many don't do either of those things.

@jeorj_euler I've seen continuous podcasts separate themselves into seasons when they number themselves.

THE MATT WALSH SHOW, however, does not do this. On YouTube and its podcast feed, the latest episode is numbered 1137, which is the total number of episodes it has produced since 2018.

Whoever changed the season numbers for 2021 did not change the episode numbers. And so IMDb lists season 4 as beginning with episode 569 and ending with episode 799. Season 5 begins with episode 800.

Incidentally, I'll have to edit the initial post. I didn't notice that the numbers for 2019 and 2020 were also changed. IMDb now lists five seasons for the show, but each season begins and ends with the episodes numbers listed on the podcast feed.

Ah, very well then. The episodes all belong to one season. I've seen some of the these on YouTube, I think, but I didn't even know that there was IMDb coverage, as I hadn't ever checked. Well, at least we know what it is supposed to be in this case. Some of the other YouTube channels with content documented on IMDb aren't as succinctly organized.

Hey @jay_spirit -

Can you help me here to see if I got this correctly, season numbers are wrong, they should all be season 1, but whoever did this gladly didn't modify episode numbers right? So if I change all season numbers to 1 it will be correct? As soon as you confirm I will have this fixed.

Cheers!

@Bethanny

Yes, that's correct. Whoever did this did not change the episode numbers, as far as I can tell. The only change that needs to be made is to the season numbers.

Change the season number to 1 for all of them, and they should all be correct again.
