Same movie has been released both on its own and as part of a series

If the same documentary short has been released and screened as a standalone title and also as an episode of a documentary series, is it acceptable to submit it as two entries - once as a short film and once as an episode of the series?

Sort of.

See the guidelines for Shell Episodes here:

https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/episode-guidelines/GDF7HR6CCCBKU3CP?ref_=helpsrall#

  • If a title is later re-released as an episode of a series, then it should be added as a shell episode. This means the episode can be added to a series, but no filmography credits relating to the original title should be added to the shell to avoid crediting the work twice on the name pages of those involved. If the individual contributed to new material relating solely to that episode e.g. hosting segment then they are valid credits and may be added to the shell episode). Please also add a trivia item and a movie connection linking the episode to the original title page.

@bderoes Thank you! Any idea on which movie connection type to use for this?

Great question, to which I don't see an answer,

Perhaps staffer @Michelle can help us here.

And when the answer has been determined, Michelle, I suggest it gets added to the guideline listed above.

nihil..., you may want to vote/comment on this Idea:

Hi @bderoes & @nihilistening -

The connection should be a "featured" listing.  For an example, you can see the documentary "Blackfish" showing the connection:

The Storyville episode "Blackfish: The Whale that Killed" connection then displays as:

Concerning the Help Guide, I have filed a ticket requesting to clarify the type of connection that should be used.

I hope this helps!
