Retracting an imdb correction

Is there a way to cancel an imdb correction that you realize was wrong after you hit Sent and before the team takes the time to process and change it?

Hi breindel_wood -

Once a submission has been made it cannot be cancelled.  For information on how to handle a mistaken submission I encourage you to review our Help Article.

In the meantime, if you would like IMDb staff to check the status, you can post the 18-digit submission reference number here and I can take a look for you.

Cheers!

@Michelle Hi thanks! I know you guys work so hard and I felt bad hitting Send and then realizing that I think a few were a mistake.

I had been trying to figure out (and posted a question but didn't really get a specific answer) about whether a not an actor should be credited with playing one role or two roles, if the character is playing a role.

Anyway, I had been submitting them as two roles, the character's name who the actor plays, and also the character's character's name (whom the character plays). But then realized that I think it should only be submitted as the character name. Is that correct?

The submission reference numbers are:
#211231-165305-272000
#211231-164841-297000
#211228-065535-292000
#211228-175616-761000
#211231-165034-274000

Hi breindel_wood -

I reviewed your submissions and can see that all of them (aside from #211228-065535-292000 and  #211228-175616-761000) have already been approved.  If the approved changes were in error, you will need to submit a correction to those character names.

To clarify, we list character names as they appear in on-screen credits, i.e. the end titles cast listing. We make occasional exceptions when character names are not listed on-screen or when the character descriptions in the end titles include spoilers, but as a rule we try to stick to credits as closely as possible.

So for the credit listings, you should generally only list the character name that was credited on-screen.  If the character name was not credited on-screen, our preference is to list the character name spoken on-screen, if the name was not spoken then we allow a brief description (ie. firefighter, waiter, mail clerk, etc).

For the credits you updated, you mentioned that the character "plays" another character, if the narrative is that the character is performing a role or pretending to be another person, this would not be considered another character name.  So for example if the character's name is "Felicity", and in the film the character performs the role of a nun in a play, the credit would only be listed with the character name "Felicity".

I hope this helps!

@Michelle Hi ok thanks! What if the character's name isn't revealed, and all we know about them is that they're an actor and that they play a nurse or a doctor on TV? Do we put Actor/Nurse and Actor/Doctor?

Hi breindel_wood -

Ideally, you should only list "Actor" in the character field if that is how the name was credited on-screen.  If the actor on the title is performing the role of an actor playing a nun, depending on the context of the performance, you could list the character name as:

theater nun performer

nun performer

performer

If the role was credited on-screen as "Actor" then this would be acceptable, however, I would encourage you to include an explanation for context regarding the character name so it doesn't get mistaken as a badly formatted submission.

I hope this helps!

Michelle,
Perfect, thanks! I've checked a few times, but just saw your reply now. There seems to be a glitch with imdb and Google Chrome and also Brave browser. I finally got in with Microsoft Edge. Thanks again! :)

So for an actor playing a soap opera actor whose character is Justin... which do you think (or something else)
Justin Soap Actor
Soap Actor Justin
