Removing nonexistent films from the database

Hello, IMDb,

I do a lot of editing on Wikipedia and we frequently have wannabe superstars trying to get autobiographical articles about themselves accepted on the project. They frequently link to a IMDb page even though they have nothing to do with the movie or TV business. They even invent fake films starring well-known actors and directors in which they are invariably the lead. Even though they are not actors!

I used to edit a lot on IMDb but it was mainly correcting mistakes or omissions. How to I go about getting a fake movie profile removed? There are too many fake credits where individuals say they were in the cast of films they were not so that is too enormous job to tackle. But I think removing nonexistent films from your database could be done.

Thank you.
Liz

P.S. And since when did any and all videos loaded up to YouTube become considered "films"? Removing all of those listings would probably decrease the database in half.

Liz:

Please post here any information you have about fake films or people with mostly/entirely fake filmographies, with links to the relevant IMDb pages. The IMDb staff, and contributors here, may be able to help get rid of the fake data.

However, if people are just self-aggrandizing themselves by listing YouTube videos on IMDb, those videos should generally be left in the database if the information is true. The standard for getting a YouTube video into IMDb is low, but it does require the video to actually exist.

And since when did any and all videos loaded up to YouTube become considered "films"?

No later than 2015, I think, with many being admitted since 2013. This was discussed in a Daily Beast article in 2018:
