Removing a credit on a non existing title

I am credited on a feature film project from years ago that was never finished. The producer/director at one point changed the project status from in production to released. It was never released or even finished, and never will be. So the listing is a lie. From what I understand the producer/director feels that it is good optics for them to have the title listed. I however, do not want to be credited on a non existent project, for obvious reasons.

I have tried without success to remove my credit (and a couple of images I am tagged in) stating as the reason that the project doesn't exist. I'm guessing that since I didn't add the title and it's not my project, IMDb can't verify that it is true.

Can this be solved in some way?
