Removal of an inaccurate IMDb page

Hi everyone,

This post is regarding: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm12968617/

I'm hoping someone from IMDb or the community may be able to offer some advice.

Like many people who dreamed of working in the film and television industry when they were younger, I wanted to see what it would be like to have an IMDb page. In hindsight, it was a poor decision, but I created a page for myself and submitted credits that were not genuine.

I'm not trying to avoid responsibility for that, I fully accept that I created the page and that I shouldn't have done so. However, I'm now trying to correct that mistake. I've submitted requests asking for the page and the associated credits to be removed (#260806-161242-100000), explaining that the information is inaccurate and that I was the original contributor, including screenshots of my contributions history. Unfortunately, my requests have been declined and I received what appears to be a standard response from IMDb via email that states IMDb does not remove factual information.

The difficulty I'm facing is that I'm not asking for factual information to be removed. I'm explaining that the information is not factual in the first place. As the person who created the submission, I can confirm that the credits do not represent genuine productions or professional work.

This has also become a privacy and personal safety concern for me due to my current circumstances, which is why I'm trying to resolve the issue properly rather than simply abandoning it.

Has anyone experienced something similar, or does anyone know the best way to have a case like this reviewed by the appropriate team? I'm simply trying to correct a mistake I made years ago and have the inaccurate information removed.

Hi sevans88 -

As mentioned in our previous email replies, it is our policy not to alter or delete any kind of correct/factual information or credit from our records.

For this reason, we will retain the title and credit listings on the site.

@Michelle It isn't correct or factual information and I'd like to know what grounds you have verified that is is accurate? It is completely fabricated misinformation and the titles don't exist. From a GDPR point of view, I need my name not to be associated with these false credits as it is effectively putting me at risk. Please kindly remove my name from credits, if you still wish to keep up these titles that don't exist and never have.

The fabricated TV credit attached to my real name constitutes inaccurate personal data. By continuing to publish and process this information after I have notified you that it is false and requested its removal, you may be failing to comply with my rights under the UK GDPR, including Article 5(1)(d) (accuracy), Article 16 (right to rectification), and, where applicable, Article 17 (right to erasure). I formally request that you review the accuracy of this information and remove or rectify the fabricated credit accordingly.

I would also point out that IMDb’s own stated policy distinguishes between legitimate credits and inaccurate information, and provides a process for correcting or deleting incorrect credits. I have specifically notified you that these programmes and credits are fabricated and that the information associated with my real name is false. Accordingly, your refusal to address the information on the basis that you cannot remove “accurate” information does not address the actual issue I have raised. I request that this matter be formally reviewed under your accuracy and data-removal procedures, and I reserve my right to escalate the matter to the Information Commissioner’s Office and, where applicable, the relevant US privacy regulator if the inaccurate personal information continues to be published.

If you still wish to use the same "IMDb does not delete factual information" response, please detail the evidence you have to believe that the information is factual.

Thanks.

I might add, Show Me What You're Made Of is a title that did exist and should remain on IMDb but I was never in it and shouldn't be credited. Therefore all my credits are false and should be removed https://www.imdb.com/name/nm12968617/
