rejections of requests to remove duplicate images

I find it useless when a submission is rejected and the reason given is "Does not meet contribution guidelines. Your contribution has been declined. Please review the image eligibility criteria". This is the most unhelpful answer you could possibly give. I frequently find duplicate images within a title/name image gallery and whenever I request that the duplicate be removed, my request is rejected and no reason is given except that I need to read image submission rules. So if there are two images in a gallery and they are both exactly the same then by Imdb image standards they are not duplicates. It would be much simpler for everyone if the person doing the rejection could just tell me why instead of referring me to some long list of rules. Then I would stop wasting my time and their's by submitting reports of duplicate images.

I agree.  I think IMDb is run by semi-literates who happened to get put into positions of control.  A few days ago I submitted corrections to an atrociously written plot summary that needed some serious improvement in punctuation to be readable.  The summary, as originally submitted, would have rated a "C-" grade in a high school sophomore level English class.  My submission was rejected with the same bureaucratic excuse that you received.

I'm done with IMDb.  I have better things to do with my life than to tangle with people who aren't qualified to run a shoe-shine stand.  Let them stew in their own juices.

Hi @joseph_spinella-

There are unique exceptions made, as is the case for the images you reported, where the image is from a partnered-source and the display is reliant for specified features on the site.

As such these specific duplicate images will need to remain on the site.

Cheers!

@Bethanny I understand what you are saying and I don't doubt that it is true, but that means there could be two or more duplicate images in the gallery, each from different partnered sources? It doesn't make sense that a single partnered source would be allowed to submit duplicate images to the same gallery.

I read and re-read the Image guidelines and image FAQ and neither mentioned any reasons why requests to review duplicate images would be declined. And there is no mention of images from partnered sources being exceptions to the rules.

My main point is my request to have the duplicate removed was declined and the reason given was "Does not meet contribution guidelines" and I was told to "Please review the "image eligibility criteria." So they rejected my request and gave no helpful reason why.

@joseph_spinella Yes I actually understand your point and this is something previously escalated that is being worked on.

Thanks!

@Bethanny I'm happy to see that it is being worked on, especially since a year ago, Michelle stated that it was (only) on the radar for future improvements: https://community-imdb.sprinklr.com/conversations/data-issues-policy-discussions/attempts-to-delete-duplicated-photos-failed/61006481e7ad7876d4352091
