rejected title

This title has been rejected. You need to correct this title before it will be accepted.
  • The Unicode character at code point 337 [ő] is not supported
This is a legal character in hungarian, and I find another title that include it:

A kőszívű ember fiai

Why I can not use it?

The IMDb website has had problems handling Unicode characters. The IMDb technical staff is aware of the problem and are working towards resolving the problem throughout the website.

Would you please provide the title that was rejected by IMDb in this thread, so that someone can further investigate the problem.

Hi Csaba Magyar,

Thank you for the additional information. This will help the IMDb content editors to help you correct the problem. This may take some time to resolve, since the IMDb technical staff is working on properly handling Unicode characters such as the Unicode character at code point 337 [ő] and IMDb staff members are not as active on weekends and during the holidays.

I'm going to restate the problem more explicitly, just to make certain we properly understand the problem.

Currently the title at the link http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4303474/ is misspelled as:

A kõmajmok háza (2014)

It should be spelled as:

A kőmajmok háza (2014)

In the Hungarian language õ (o tilde, Unicode 213) is not the same as ő (o with double acute, Unicode 337). It equivalent to substituting an "o" in place of a "u" in English. "sobstitoting" would look very odd to a native English speaker.

IMDb does have a policy about the "o with double acute accent" character in Hungarian. See http://web.archive.org/web/20060101140203/http://www.imdb.com/Newsletter/newsletter-13#iso.

Since 1997, the character has had to be replaced with the "o with umlaut" (ö) character. The "o with double acute accent" is not available in the ISO-Latin-1 character set which is what IMDb uses for all primary titles.

Note that for A kőszívű ember fiai, that is what IMDb did. The film is listed in IMDb as A köszívü ember fiai, with the substitutions made on the "o with double acute" and the "u with double acute", replacing them with "o with umlaut" and "u with umlaut".

So I would recommend submitting a title correction for A kõmajmok háza to change it to A kömajmok háza. I realize that that is still not correct Hungarian orthography, but that is IMDb policy.

Thank you gromit82. I was not aware of IMDb's policy regarding the "o with double acute accent" character in Hungarian. I suspect that policy will probably stay in place until such time as IMDb is fully Unicode compliant.

For your information Csaba Magyar:
