Ratings Injustice
My theatrical film centers on several very controversial social media influencers that have a very active community of trolls that hammer their social posts and book reviews on Amazon with the worst possible reviews and comments. Though the film has only shown on a single night so far, and is set for an encore release in April, this troll community hammered the film with 1-star reviews (101 to date) immediately after the one-day release. The film was #4 in the box office, #1 in PSA, and nearly 80,000 tickets were sold. Reviews on social media are stellar, and we are obviously proud of our work. On the official movie page at Facebook, we encouraged those who actually saw the film to join IMDB and offer their "honest" ratings. Nearly 2500 have done so, and all are above 7-stars, with most being 10-stars. There are virtually zero ratings between 1 and 7, yet somehow the IMDB weighting system is giving us a 5.6-star rating. The actual average rating (mean) is 9.6 stars. How on earth are people who actually viewed the film being discounted, while such a small percentage of dishonest 1-star trolls who never saw the film are being weighed so heavily? This injustice is clearly hurting our film and diminishing the success of my production company and associates. I've been part of IMDB for more than 20 years, and I've never seen such a disparity for any film. Can anyone help me correct this?
