Production Accountant Credit
Production Accountants are Department Heads that oversee $100 Million or more in a season. We even get on-screen credit as Production Accountant or Production Controller. Why does IMDB throw them into "Series Additional Crew" with PA's and office staff? Other department heads such as Art Director, Locations, Transportation or any other department heads are credited accordingly in IMDB to match their on-screen credits. Production Accountants nationwide would very much appreciate if you would correct this issue. You can check my last series "Rebel" for ABC or look up my IMDB Kathy Riley I (additional crew) and you will see what it looks like to have been in this business for 30+ years as a department head lumped in with Additional Crew. United Talent Agency represents Directors of Photography, Assistant Directors, Production Designers, Costume Designers and they are looking to represent Production Accountants now as well.

It took us a while to figure out how to add a YES vote to Kathy's IMDb post, so we put together a quick guide to help others navigate the process:

Accountants do need their own category. We are not just "Additional Crew" like PA's.

100% agreed! Should be kept separate from "additional crew"... Production Accountant/Controller, a bit more vital than warrants the title "additional crew", and "payroll accountant" because, no one is here without payroll ;)

Nothing in film production happens by magic. Every image on the screen is painstakingly detailed before cameras begin to roll, and every detail is run through the accounting office. In fact, most film productions cannot even be bonded, let alone financed, until a qualified Production Accountant has been signed on to the project. Production Accounting is one of the first departments hired on to a project, and one of the last departments to wrap up the production (only to have our work turned over to the Post Accounting team who then finishes the show). Throughout my 30+ year career as a Production Accountant, I have had many-a-Producer say to me, "I want to keep the Accounting Department small so that I can put more money on the screen." To this I ask, "Then why are you talking to me? Just have your D.P. do your accounting." As a Production Accountant, I am the Head of Department, with a staff of 2 to 10 people; I work with each of the other departments to assure they are able to do their jobs; and the quality of my work often determines if the project makes it to distribution or gets tied up in bankruptcy or endless lawsuits. Everything we Production Accountants do is confidential and, in the background, but, when it comes to the question of our crucial contribution to the success of a project, it is only fitting that we are not lumped in with the background, but instead, acknowledged as separate department, equal to all other departments listed on IMDb.com.

Accountants serve a huge roll in making movies and television and should definitely be recognized for their dedication and therefor should deserve credits under accountants vs addl crew. Movies and TV would not make it without the needed accountants on all shows. It’s a must!!!
PS - thank you Kathy :)

Make this happen. There is an entire Accounting Department that needs to be recognized - Controllers, Keys, 1sts, 2nds, Payroll Accountants, Payroll Assistants, Clerks ... we are CREW.

DEFINITELY!!!! Without the accountants, your film could not be made cuz vendors would not be paid! That needs to be on a t-shirt!

As Controllers and Accountants, we are an integral part of the brain trust between the Studios and the Producers. We are involved in many facets of the production, we begin before the crew and stay on beyond the crew. The fact that our position is not recognized with more respect is outdated and needs to be addressed. If Studio's trust us to sign checks worth millions of dollars then I think we can all agree we are worthy of credits that reflect the level of responsibility and contribution to the projects we are a part of.

Thanks Kathy! Great initiative. Controllers, Accountants should be listed with the Production Managers - Management or Accountancy Management. I’d like to see this before I retire :) Thank you!

Many of us on here have been an essential part of our industry and our projects for over 20 years! We count, and not just in the obvious sense of the word!
Production accountants shepherd the projects from prep sometimes all the way through to delivery, or we hand off to each other. We are among the first hired, the most trusted and the busiest people on the project.
IMDB, you know what to do.
