Primary image confusion

Hi everybody,

I've submitted the original German theatrical poster for Assault on Precinct 13 and wanted to make it the primary image for the German title. So I chose 'Suggest as primary image' (while having the German translation on). Good news: my suggestion was accepted. But somehow the German poster now is primary for the English original title and the German title still has the incorrect DVD cover (which should be deleted as poster?) as primary. What am I doing wrong? I added English as a language tag. Maybe that's the problem?

Hi moezes -

Can you refresh your browser and check the title page again?  If the DVD cover is still displaying as the primary poster on the title page can you take a screen grab and post it here?

Cheers!

@Michelle

Hi Michelle, thanks for your reply. Everything is fine now with the 'Assault' Posters.

But I have to say that especially the photo/poster sections of title pages here on IMDb are often pretty convoluted and messy - lot of incorrect tags and duplicates. And correcting them turns out to be very tedoius and complicated.

E.g. I made this submission: #220124-002810-615102. It's a Japanese Star Wars poster and it's tagged with Italian. So I deleted 'Italian' because it's a Japanese poster with Japanese signs/language and additionaly the Italian version of this exact same poster was already uploaded by a user. BUT after a few days my submission was declined: Unable to verify. What?! Now I am wondering: what kind of "evidence" is necessary to make little and obvious edits like that? Also you cannot add an explanation of your title deletion. This would be a very useful feature if IMDb insists on detailed verification...

Unfortunately this is not the first time that correct submissions have been declined. Some other examples here (I could go all day long):

#220124-011119-738502. Why in the world should they use a Polish poster in Portugal?!

#220122-201657-588702. Why was that poster deletion declined? There are three images of the exact same Japanese poster. I cannot see how my submission is violating the contribution guidelines.

This way of contributing is very frustrating and tedious. I dont wanna have to use the contact form for every single small change I make... :-(

Hi @moezes -

I understand the frustrations, especially as you are dedicating time and effort to report these issues.  Regarding the first two submissions (220124-002810-615102 & 220124-011119-738502), I have now approved these updates and the changes should be live on the site shortly.

However, regarding the third submission (220122-201657-588702) despite being a duplicate poster, this image could not be removed because there are existing editorial features that are reliant on the image.  When this is the case, in these instances we will need to retain the duplicate image.

I hope this helps!

I don't think you can use "Suggest as primary image" to choose a German poster for the German display. The primary image is the default image. If a German poster is displayed instead, it's based on language tags, as I understand it.

@Peter_pbn Thank you, that's right. At least I got the same answer from the IMDb customer service: "Unfortunately at this time we are unable to change the display of the localized posters. We are investigating this and will let you know when there is an update to this."
