Possibly a fake/hoax IMDb acount for a documentary film director
So I came across this IMDb acount for a supposedely an Irish documentary film director Gabriel Murray https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1930683/ who makes movies for this company called Olympia Films (based on its muray.com profile it is supposedly based in Zurich and hired a couple of actors/film crew for the films The Lost World of the Crystal Skull (2008), and Obama's Irish Roots (2011)
The reason I even learned about this IMDb account is because today this person and/or their representative added a Ukrainian movie, which I accidentally stumbled upon, entiteled "Lost Heroes" ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15613750/ ) that's supposedly coming out in Nov 2021 (even though its status is "in pre-production" and it is early Oct 2021, so this person has a like a month to shoot this live-action??? (that's how this person added it to IMDb, i.e., as a live-action, but given their other credits are documentary short/featue films, is this also supposed to be a documentary???). The credit says that this movie is being produced by a film company called "Olympia Films" and is a Ukraine prduction and the film is shot in Ukrainian. The reason that I found this very suspicious is because there are literally zero news on the internet about a "Gabriel Murray" (or his name spelled in Ukrainian Ґабріель Мюррей) or his supposed film "Lost Heroes" (or its literal Ukrainian translation "Загублені герої"). In gereral this whole entry for this supposed Ukrainian-language movie "Lost Heroes" seemed quite hoaxy, given that Ukrainian media would've def. reported on a Nov. 2021 relase of a new Ukrainian movie, especially with an Irish director (that would be the first in the history of Ukrainian cinema).
Then I started looking at the other credits at this supposed Irish filmmaker Gabriel Murray https://www.imdb.com/name/nm1930683/ , and the rest of his credits ALSO seemed super fishy and rather hoaxy. This is what 10 min. of googling gave me:
The only 5 credits for this Gabriel Murray has and that have any mentioning on the internet are:
1) Director/writer credit for George Clooney's Irish Roots (2012; https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2214926/ ; https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/george_clooneys_irish_roots ; zero ratings on IMDb or RT)
- a pdf scan from a "Limerick Post" local newspaper with a headline "Corrigans are music to George Clooney's ears" that mentions that "a film George Clooney's Irish Roots is currently in production and is being made by Olympia Films with award winning director Gabriel Murray at the helm"
- quote "A film made made six years ago by Kilkenny director Gabriel Murray, titled George Clooney’s Irish Roots, traces the emigration of his Irish ancestor Nicholas from Kilkenny to Kentucky in the US during the Great Famine of 1847." (source: kilkennynow.ie website)
- news article with a title George Clooney's Irish roots are part of Titanic tale that says "'George Clooney's Irish Roots -- The real Descendants' by Kilkenny documentary maker Gabriel Murray -- explores a Clooney link to the midlands town." (source: independent.ie website)
2) Director/writer credit for Obama's Irish Roots (2009; https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1586259/ ; zero ratings on IMDb)
- Internet search shows that
- A tweet from 2011 that says "Launching my DVD Obamas Irish Roots to buy dvd go to www.obamasirishroots.com" from @OlympiaFilms Twitter handle (the ONLY tweet from this handle); this website is now dead, but archive.org copy shows that this website had some utter nonsencical claims about Cannes premier and such like
Barrack obama's irish roots family tree: A new documentary, which will be launched internationally at the Cannes Film Festival next month
- ‘Obama’s Irish Roots’ documentary to screen at Waterford Film Festival this news is located on irishcentral.com
- Quote: " 2009 Waterford Film Festival: Runners Up: Obama’s Irish Roots Producer(s) : Yvette Hoyle +Gabriel Murray Director: Gabriel Murray ) - this news is located on a fishy looking billyandlillygotonewyork.wordpress.com/ website
- Quote: "The Hamptons Black International Film Festival opens today in Manhattan with a premiere of “Obama’s Irish Roots,” a documentary about the President as he traces his Irish ancestry, produced and directed by Gabriel Murray.”" this news is located on easthamptonstar.com website
- This Gabriel Murray published through self-publishing an epynymous book https://books.google.com/books?id=Om0CAwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover (their goodreads does not show this particular book, but it shows 10+ other self-published books, all of which have zero ratings with the exeption of the books where this Gabriel Murray is added as a contributor to a multi-author boook collection https://www.goodreads.com/author/list/4153540.Gabriel_Murray )
- FILMMAKER GABRIEL MURRAY (a biography on a super fihsy website better-new-world.com that mentions this Obama Irish Roots film)
- Article with a title 'Obama's Irish Roots' Documentary Seals Distribution Deal (posted on a fishy looking iftn.ie website )
- A tweet from 2011 that says "Launching my DVD Obamas Irish Roots to buy dvd go to www.obamasirishroots.com" from @OlympiaFilms Twitter handle (the ONLY tweet from this handle); this website is now dead, but archive.org copy shows that this website had some utter nonsencical claims about Cannes premier and such like
3) Writing credit for TV Mini-Series ‘Casanova’s Love Letters (2005, https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0450210/ it has 18 ratings on IMDb)
- News article with a title Gabriel Murray Appointed to Monaco Festival Jury and mentions that "Most recently Gabriel’s screenplay for the TV Mini-Series ‘Casanova’s Love Letters’ completed shooting in Prague and Venice." This article also has a link to http://casanovasloveletters.com/ website (now dead, archive.org shows that it was a flash-based website) (source iftn.ie website)
4) Director/writing credit for a TV movie (or documentary according to that better-new-world.com website) The Lost World of the Crystal Skull (2008 https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1273808/ ; 9 ratings on IMDb)
- Has an English Wikipedia article that looks fake (it claims that this film had a 18 May 2008 premier at Cannes Film Festival!!!) and only has two sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lost_World_of_the_Crystal_Skull
- source 1: Waterford Film Festival 2008 Winners: 1st place: The Lost World of the Crystal Skull (source: waterfordfilmfestival.com, now dead)
- source 2: The Mexico International Film Festival proudly congratulates its 2009 Golden Palm Winners!: Documentaries: THE LOST WORLD OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL (source: mexicofilmfestival.com, now dead)
- Has an entry on mandy.com: https://www.mandy.com/uk/films/the-lost-world-of-the-crystal-skull (that lists profiles of 2 actors and 1 camera operator that supposedly took part in this film)
- Has an entry on alchetron.com: https://alchetron.com/The-Lost-World-of-the-Crystal-Skull (looks similar to what is found on the Wikipedia article about this film, including nonsencial claims of "Cannes Film Festival premier, so this is possibly a copy-paste from the Wiki aritcle)
- Has an entry on iftn.ie : http://www.iftn.ie/filmography/byyear/2008/?act1=record&aid=70&rid=3339&tpl=filmography_dets&only=1&force=1
5) Co-writing credts So Long Marianne (2020; https://www.imdb.com/title/tt13286368/ ; zero ratings on IMDb)
- Has a fake-looking website page on a supposed production company: https://www.palmtreefilm.com/solongmarianne.html
The only instances of something somewhat real-looking that I was able to find were:
- Two fotoes of this Gabriel Murray from a photo stock company gettyimages and alamy (first, second) from a supposed premier of this "Obama's Irish Roots" documentary in Dublin in Oct 2012 with "Louise Florence and Lord Mayor Naoise O Muirri"
- A passing mention of this Gabriel Murray in The Hollywood Reporter in May 2019, quote "Von Franckenstein died of hypoxia on Thursday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, filmmaker Gabriel Murray told The Hollywood Reporter. He had been in an induced coma for 10 days."
- The fact that there are 3 actors listed for the "The Lost World of the Crystal Skull" (2008 TV movie and/or documentary) on mandy.com, which seems like a legit site with a real Linkedin/FB pages: https://www.mandy.com/uk/films/the-lost-world-of-the-crystal-skull
In summary I think this is an eleborate hoax (including all supposed credits of this Gabriel Murray_. Literally everything I found on the internet related to this Gabriel Murray seemes fake/hoaxy/fishy. Starting from the "Cannes Film Festival' premiers to a Ukrainian film that will premier in a month on Nov 2021 and that no one in Ukraine has heard of (and no news papers reported about). But then again, I did find those two pictures of supposedly director Gabriel Murray, so maybe this is not a hoax?
