Poor Quality Images in the 1930s - 1960s Films

Hi,

To give you a truncated version of a background. Years ago there was a prolific IMDb IMDb contributor who doesn't contribute anymore. He did it for 20 years and was well thought of by some because people didn't really understand how much his lines were padded to say it nicely with useless or inaccurate information.

Anyways he was allowed to be a beta tester for image submissions and when IMDb opened up the floodgates to allow users to submit images he ran wild. (I knew him personally) Anyways he was a hoarder for images, etc and didn't care what he submitted and this led to thousands of poor quality images being submitted. Over the last few years I've probably submitted a few hundred deletion submissions and usually they were accepted due to poor quality but can a staff member please look up the contributor and go through his images? There's without a doubt 4 figures easily) of them and I figure it'd be so much easier than to have to keep doing it. He is in his late 80s and he literally was submitting photos of cereal box membership cards he got when was like 7. A decent amount of films are cleaned up over the years but here are just a few the guy submitted and it's just the tip of the iceberg. There are several that are far far worse quality. A lot of them look like they were taken through mesh fences basically.

Hi @phillip -

Thanks for your report.  I have now removed the images you reported above, I have also filed a ticket (#P93680404) for the appropriate team requesting an audit and review.

Cheers!

@phillip " Years ago there was a prolific IMDb IMDb contributor who doesn't contribute anymore. "

I'm surprised to learn that this contributor apparently doesn't contribute anymore. Do you happen to know why he doesn't contribute anymore?

@Marco

He's I think 88 years old. Anybody who knew him from the old boards knew there was nobody who was more vocal on the old board. He started having computer issues but the last draw I think was when a few years ago he got a list from "The Riding Actors Association" (an organization) that lasted 4 years and he declared all 600 members stuntmen and listed them as stuntmen in every film they did.  It was just a paid organization. It became a giant mess. He declared riding a horse a stunt then he declared any extra a member of the organization was doing stunts even if they were an extra barfly so you'd have 80+ year old Tex Cooper listed as doing stunts in films when he never did a stunt in a movie for obvious reasons.

You'd have some low budget PRC movie with maybe 1 stunt double in it and 15 extras down as stunts that were extras. A IMDb staffer finally investigated and he got really mad. Then another prolific contributor found he was creating fictious distribution companies, etc listing companies as distributing films to countries that didn't exist yet.

It was just a sad situation. IMDb seems to have been his world but he was fluffing up his lines for several years apparently. There's a lot more but it's probably best not gotten into. It's sort of the law of diminishing returns. He spent  years adding various things to the same 20 or so year period of movies and there was nothing left so he just started creating things and lines.

@phillip He sure was vocal on the old Contributors Board, a thing I appreciated, especially since he also had humor.

A pity things had to end like this.

Hi @phillip -

Images were reviewed by our staff and most of them are good enough to stay considering the original source material, of course if we have 2 images that are the same and 1 is better quality then that one can stay, as of now images contributed are of good value and will stay. A couple of them with very bad quality were deleted, if you notice any where quality is too low please report individually.

Thanks!
