As we mention in the IMDb Top 250 Movies and IMDb Top 250 TV Shows pages, only votes from regular IMDb voters are considered when creating the top 250 out of the full voting database.
I encourage you to take a look at our help guides for more detailed information.
@Fran I really appreciate your response. But to confirm that I understand you; does that mean that the 9.3 rating to this series is not a real rating? If so why dont you create more lists that includes these series and mark it as "unofficial" or "uncertified" or whatever?
The 9.3 rating on the title page is correct, however, to qualify for a Top 250 listing only the votes from regular IMDb voters are considered. We don't disclose the criteria used for a person to be counted as a regular voter, however, I can share the following details that are required for a title to be included on our Top 250:
Shorts, TV movies, and documentaries are not included
The list is ranked by a formula which includes the number of ratings each movie received from users, and value of ratings received from regular users
To be included on the list, a movie must receive ratings from at least 25000 users
My apologies for not being clearer, to qualify for the Top 250 Movies, the title cannot be a documentary, however, for the Top 250 TV Shows, we will allow a documentary series to be included.
The specific TV Show criteria is:
Only includes TV series and TV mini series.
The list is ranked by a formula which includes the number of ratings each show received from users, and value of ratings received from regular users
The series or mini series must receive ratings from at least 10000 users, and a TV series must also have aired at least 5 episodes
to qualify for the Top 250 Movies, the title cannot be a documentary, however, for the Top 250 TV Shows, we will allow a documentary series to be included.
Wouldn't it make more sense (and be more consistent) to not allow documentary series in the Top 250 TV shows? Also, in the same vain, talkshows are also allowed in the Top 250 TV shows. That doesn't seem the proper way to go to me.
