Old company names?
Hi.
There are probably several threads about company names already, but I still want to clarify this: What happens when the (same) company changes their name? For example, let's say that the company is originally called "Tomato Tom", but after the name change it's called "Tomato Tom & Jill". Same company, just a different name.
A) IMDb lists two "different" companies: "Tomato Tom" AND "Tomato Tom & Jill". The credits under the original name go under "Tomato Tom", and the new ones under "Tomato Tom & Jill". The old one should stay in the database.
B) IMDb only lists one company and it's using the "newest" name "Tomato Tom & Jill". Older titles should be corrected with the attribute "(as Tomato Tom)".
( C) IF the company doesn't yet exist in the database, it should be added as a "new company" - and the latest name should be used as a primary company name, with the older name with the attributes like "(as Tomato Tom)". )
Thanks.

Hi eboy -
To answer your question, we handle these on a case-by-case basis, as there may be certain situations/exceptions where Option A is the preferred over option B (ie. a company goes bankrupt and closes, then later opens as a new company with a new name, or perhaps in n instance where two major studios merge) ; however, until we have an ideal way to capture alternate company names, our general preference is option B.
I hope this helps!

I'm going to "bump" this old thread (which could mean that the staff won't respond to it, but let's try), since I came across with a school that has now changed its name. Do I understand earlier messages correctly: IMDb prefers the "current" name of the places like schools, organizations, institutions etc?
For example, "Radley College" is credited as such, even if some credits would bear the old name "College of St Peter"? => Radley College (as College of St Peter)
( Just a random example, btw. )
