Non editable poor quality primary images

Hi,

I am currently in the process of exchanging some primary images due to poor quality.

I came across some titles where this is unfortunately not possible though (The existing primary has been provided by a studio partner and is not editable.)

Unfortunately, the quality of the primary images in the affected titles is particularly poor (poorly cropped, low resolution, screenshot of a DVD case, etc.)

The titles are all video games. I will provide the links for the titles below.

Is there any possibility for the administrators or someone else to change the primary images? There would be enough official poster material for each title in the image galleries to use instead the current ones.

Hi Lostzilla-

Thank you for reporting these poster images on these titles pages! After further investigating, this is correct, the primary poster images for these title pages above were in a breach of our Image Guidelines as their image type is 'product' and not 'poster.'

These images have been corrected to the respective type and respective poster images have been set as primary. The changes are already live on the site for all of them.

You are welcome to submit a change/update or submit a new poster on these title pages.

The current posted is the best I could find in the gallery for the title. What image are tying to change the poster to? Also for the images not appearing in the gallery, do you have the 18-digits submission reference number? to take a look for you.

You could find the submission number on your Contribution History page.

Hi Fran,

Thank you so much for replying. I tried to change it to this poster (submission reference number is 230824-180527-993202) but it got declined. Dont know why though. And then i suggested this one as the primary image (reference number is 230825-075006-698302) but its still on pending for quite a while.

I think both posters/artworks would qualify as a higher quality primary image, they both are offical posters and artworks that are globally used for DVD/Blu-Ray releases and the current one has a very low resolution where even the title is barely readable. I think it doesnt quite meet the

IMDb's quality standards.

Maybe you can take a look and change it or tell me your opinion and give me some feedback.

We want to have the most iconic and widely-recognized poster, preferably from the original airing of the first season, do you know which is the poster that originally released with the tv series?

Sure, absolutely understandable. Especially in this case its a bit unfortunate that there is a certain lack of quality. If this is the poster that should remain as primary image, i would suggest to change it at least to image 184 from the gallery. Its the same, but has a slightly better quality. Its not so dark and the details are a bit better visible. 

And no, unfortunately i do not know which poster originally released with the tv series. I tried to so some research but its hard to tell. All i know is that the first suggestion i made was the poster/artwork that was used for the first international releases for the series. And the second suggestion is globally used for newer releases.

Hi Maya and Fran,

I want to apologize in advance for the long text and the many links/reference numbers. Hopefully you can still help me with my problem though.

I've been contributing content (movie posters) on IMDb for quite a while now and i really try to do my best to raise the quality standard for certain titles. I put in a lot of work and hours and until now, expect with a few exceptions, it always worked out fine and my uploads/changes got accpeted.

But since a few days all of my suggestions to change certain primary images are on "pending" for quite some time and then they always get declined for the same reason (Does not meet contribution guidelines.)

I will prepare some reference numbers on the bottom and maybe you can check it out. In every case my suggestions would have been a huge improvement quality wise, otherwise i wouldn't suggest them. 

In some cases the current primary image are just poorly cropped title cards, a book cover that isn't even related to the actual movie, wrong ratios, fan made photoshop poster etc. I also tried to do some changes where I suggested the same poster, but properly cropped without any white edges. So I don't understand what's the issue and why my suggestions still get declined.

Do you know what the issue with the suggestions was? I started to think that there might be something wrong with my account or have the declines been objectively reasonable or "out of personal taste"?

This is a spanish movie, the title is the international one and there is no english poster for the movie available.

This is a german movie. And its the official International poster. Also the current primary image is german as well.

These 2 titles are italian, and altough there are packshots available in english, they have a poor quality and dont use the common/well known motifs. Also there a lot of titles (also from the same director) where the primary image is also in italian although there are english posters available as well. So i figured it shouldnt be a problem.

I understand the guidelines with nudity, just wanted to point out that its the same motif as the current primary image, just a different ratio. So the current one also contains nudity.

As mentioned in our guidelines, 'English language posters are preferred if available' it is OK if the movie is from another country.

230902-094204-060102- Current poster only has the title in it, the one you were suggesting has information in other language.

230902-125558-683602- Even though current one has original German title all other info is in English.

Both posters are in English, perhaps you are seeing regional ones?

Looking at these submissions, I have approved the requested primary image changes except for the following submissions:

#230904-202240-492702: it seems that the existing primary is already the most iconic for the title.

#230904-213505-772202: the suggested replacement is for a DVD product

#230904-224706-441502: while this is the original released poster, we aim to display the most iconic and widely-recognized poster, this is likely why the request was declined.

#230904-232613-288502: This was likely declined because the quality of the image was not as good as the existing primary.

unfortunately some of my latest suggestions got declined again. This time I will only post a few reference numbers that are intended to illustrate how arbitrary the rejection of my suggestions seems.

This is an English Dracula film starring Christopher Lee, but the primary image is a Turkish poster. My suggestion was the international poster with the English title.

The current primary image is a print file on which even the crop marks for the printer can be seen. I wanted to replace it with the same poster, cropped correctly.

Here the primary image is also cropped incorrectly.

Here the current primary image is so incorrectly cropped that even parts of the title are missing.

As mentioned, these are just a few examples of titles where my suggestion was rejected. It is not about changing the images now, I'd just like to know why my suggestions are being declined all the time.

Since I really invest a lot of time in this and posting the titles here in the forum again takes even more time, I will otherwise stop uploading or trying to change content in the future. I really try to help to improve the quality of certain titles, and it was always a lot of fun in the past but not when it is like this.

I also don't want to annoy anyone or cause extra work. So i do apologize for the long text, but hopefully you can help me.

Upon reviewing these recent submissions, they have all been approved except for the following submission:

#230904-213505-772202: this was declined because it is a DVD product image, as opposed to a poster image.

In regard of #230904-213505-772202: Yes it is the packshot/cover of the DVD but the current primary image is as well. But even in a worse quality and so badly cropped that half of the title is missing. As is it seems there is no english poster available for this title.

I have now modified the primary poster for this title.  Concerning the image you requested, we cannot use this image as the primary because it is a product image for the DVD cover as opposed to a poster image.

I also tried to contact the IMDb support to ask what the problem is and why all my suggestions get declined. Hopefully there is a solution, so I dont have to bother you so often with this.

Unfortunately the primary images are either product images or "unofficial" sales/preview/festival posters and not the official, final theatrical posters.

Hi @Lostzilla,

Thank you for you report. We will review edge cases for policy errors such as product images  contributed by a studio partner displaying as the primary, however we will not change any valid posters contributed by studio partners.

We have corrected the images suggested where product images were displaying as primary for the above mentioned titles: The Factory, The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and Erotic Nights of the Living Dead. All the other titles currently display valid primary images contributed by studio partners and will not be edited.

We currently do not have any other images contributed to Porno Holocaust to update the primary image. If one is uploaded, our processing team will review it for approval.
