New IMDb Help hub

Hi everyone,

We are thrilled to announce we have published a new Help hub for IMDb fans, IMDbPro members and Data Contributors. This hub, available at https://help.imdb.com, replaces the help content previously residing on http://www.imdb.com/help/http://pro.imdb.com/help/ and https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/guide/ and provides streamlined access to the most common customer queries, organized in intuitive themes, with improved navigation and mobile-optimized design. It includes completely new search functionality across IMDbPro, fan and contribution sections. With this update, IMDbPro help content which was previously available only to logged-in IMDbPro members is now available to logged out users and non-members.

The new help site is one of the projects under the umbrella of software upgrades our founder, Col, wrote about here: https://getsatisfaction.com/imdb/topics/upcoming-changes-to-several-imdb-features-du6man1opd5q0

We hope the new hub helps you make the most of your IMDb experience and solve questions you have about our features and services.

We will continue to work on improving our help content, adding more images where this helps to communicate more effectively.

Please feel free to reply on this thread with any feedback or any issues you encounter. We appreciate all your help and dedication to our site.

There are some dead links in some of the help pages because some of the company guide pages have apparently been removed, specifically the links for Production Companies and Sales Agents.

Look for instance at the links in the Submission guide overview or in the Miscellaneous companies page.

The pages may have been consolidated into the Companies data page, but this page also has the dead links.

When adding a too short mini-bio for someone, you get a red warning stating: "Mini-bio is too short.
Your mini-bio is not long enough - the minimum length for mini-bios is 50 words. Please see the guidelines." But if you go to the guide (https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/names-biographical-data/biographical-data-guidelines/GMT9...), it doesn't say anything about the minimum length. Can you add this requirement to the guide please?

On the bio trivia guide (https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/names-biographical-data/biographical-data-guidelines/GMT9...) it says in the acceptable bio-trivia part that spouses have their own section. Can you make the words "own section" clickable so they lead to https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/names-biographical-data/biographical-data-guidelines/GMT9...?

(and while I'm into tiny details, there's also a link to the "own section" of the awards where the last parenthesis and the dot at the end of the sentence are blue instead of black. Can you change this as well?)

There's a dead link in the Occupations part of the Other Crew guide (https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/filmography-credits/miscellaneous-crew/GKJ77YEG6FGKV6FC?r...#). Clicking on the word Glossary leads to a 404 page because - as it seems - the glossary has been removed from the website altogether. I do hope it gets back someday.

Unfortunately, IMDb has removed the Glossary (!). One can only hope they are planning to get it back asap!

On the Certification part of the guide (https://help.imdb.com/article/contribution/titles/certificates/GU757M8ZJ9ZPXB39#countries), there is one certificate missing (9 - not recommended for children below age of 9) for the Netherlands. Can a staffer add this please? Evidence: http://www.kijkwijzer.nl/kijkwijzer.

I found that when I clicked the blue question mark in the update form to access the Title Correction guidelines, the first three links to other help pages were old links which were redirected to the main help page.

This is despite the fact that the Title Correction guide here has been updated to include current links.

One more thing, in the line, "General title formatting rules (how to distinguish between TV titles, videogames, movies, etc.) are here," the currently linked page is actually called Submitting a Video Game. I guess the title formatting rules are actually in the Title Formatting page, which is already linked in the preceding line.

Hey Peter,

Thanks for calling these problems out.

I've updated the in contribution help for Title Corrections now, the links have also been slightly changed for the title formatting rules to send you to the same title formatting page.

Cheers!

The "I'm missing a badge. What should I do?" instruction has to be more strict to follow.
Today it describes the clue action as follows:
"please re-rate at least one of the titles associated with the badge".

OK, may be I was a kind of over-geek to re-rate this way: unrate then rate again...
but my action was in the frame of the "re-rate" instruction.

The "step by step" practice:
  1. Badges for all the years, except 2018, are in my pocket;
  2. All the titles are previously rated to be for 2018;
  3. Unrate "2001: A Space Odyssey", then rate it the same value;
  4. Only 2017 and 2010 badges remain (all the rest "odysseyed to open space");
  5. Unrate "Shawshank Redemption" (it was in all the tops), then rate it the same value;
  6. All the badges here again, except the 2018;
  7. Stop mission, don't need any more (result);
  8. After some time: other people may need (idea);
  9. Open 2018 Top 250 and re-rate another way: just click on the same rated star for a title;
  10. Repeat the previous action on each page of 2018 Top 250 (this may be not necessary);
  11. All badges in the pocket, including the before-missed 2018.

Conclusion:
The "re-rate" action must be explained better in the help, to avoid misunderstandings.
