Neighbours

The Australian soap Neighbours was axed, and Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, and others came back to the show that gave them their big break to say goodbye.

It was then brought back and revived by a different production company, and with a jump forward of two years in time.  Shouldn't this at least qualify those new episodes as a new series/season, rather than continuing the number sequence of the previously-axed series?

I would have thought this episode https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5055442 should be #2.1

Hi @Vande,

Thank you for your problem report.

This title should continue to be listed as it currently is, as it is a continuation of the series and a soap opera, which are never listed in multiple seasons. As our episode structure is formatted by seasons by default, this is why the series appears as season 1 with the episodes formatted as e.g. #1.8904.

I hope this helps!

Hi @Ozzy

Oh right, I didn't know about that soap rule.
I noticed some time ago that fellow Australian soap opera "Prisoner" has been separated into seasons:  https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077064/

Incidentally, the company which brought Neighbours back is the parent company of this very site, "Amazon"!

@Ozzy Well, American soaps have one season because they broadcast all year 'round if I'm not mistaken, but for example in the Netherlands, soap operas do have several seasons because they have a (roughly) two month break during the summer. Example: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096597/reference/

@Marco I think Australian soaps do take breaks too, but it's fair enough if they're not seasons.  I just thought a soap being axed and then coming back with a 2-year time jump and made by a completely different production company based in a different country was a special case.  It almost qualifies it as a separate title, but I was under the impression that labelling it a new season was a happy medium.
