Narrators self section

Hello,

I'm making changes to documentaries where actors provide narration: in some filmographies, titles are listed in the self section, others in the cast section. The cast section seems more relevant, as these actors participate as artists, not as themselves. Therefore, when the narrator was placed in the self section, I request the actor's name addition to the cast section (which is always approved) and simultaneously request its deletion from the self section. This is more problematic; it's sometimes accepted, sometimes rejected. Here's a list of the rejected submissions. Could you approve them? And could you tell me how I should word my request to ensure it's accepted without any issues? Thank you in advance.

Hah, that's funny, I've been of the total opposite opinion and I won't be the only one; I was about to ask for clarity on this very same topic. And that was to prevent exactly this, or perhaps prevent myself and others from mistaken data entries from the opposing view. I too when first started out found that more often than not Narrators for Documentaries were listed in the 'Self' section, I'll explain why I think that is and how I do believe that is in fact where I think they should still belong (in my opinion).

A while back, newer guidelines were released which I believe have been altered on this matter, perhaps put it down to what was inferred previously that led to the 'Self' assignment, I can't recall entirely. Going off the newer guidelines however, I've found it far less clear as to where a Non-fiction/Documentary Narrator (voice only, no appearance) belongs, well really it just seems to imply in 'Cast' only now, no mention of ‘Self’, a mistake perhaps?...

It used to be upon entering the 'keyword' "Documentary" as a genre, Narrators would auto-assign to the 'Self' section, now though instead we have the choice between 'Self' & 'Cast'.

Also, you'll have instances where someone is Narrating for a fictitious film, e.g. a cartoon, this only, is or was considered voice 'Acting' when it came to Narration, and so they would go into 'Cast'. Whereas in Non-fiction or Documentary they are just being themselves, so to speak, just talking, not inside a fictitious world 'voice acting' and so would go into ‘Self’. What's more, you'll sometimes have actual voice actors within a Documentary providing the voice of a historic figure, then this becomes a worthy distinction between the two roles, that now does place them specifically into 'Cast' whilst the Narrator remains in ‘Self’. If for example it were a Documentary spoof, they would go into ‘Cast’.

Also, although 'Self' implies they "appear" as themselves, the "(voice)" attribute has been an ever-present option, meaning, "they don't appear as themselves, but voice only" and so people have used it to cancel out the 'appearing as Self' implication. And then this has of course has been approved as a submission, and still is, (and so reinforces peoples archiving approach.)

Also, if I don't presume too much, my understanding has been people would not want to see however many 'voice only' (reality) Documentaries someone has done intermingled throughout someone's actual physical ‘acting’ career, (although yes, Doc. on/off filter exists now, still applicable though I'd say... keep it in the Self section.)

Granted, now the guidelines would seem to imply otherwise, which I'm now hoping is a mistake, or in need of review and clarification and I suspect I won't be the only one that thinks and feels this way. I'm interested to hear what the clarification will be on this. Like I say I was about to make a whole post about this, and its ended up here instead now, so hopefully from here it can now be resolved. Thanks for reading though all this. As always, I welcome correction to any errors I’ve made. Thankyou!
